Added some complete examples in downloadable form

Corrected the example - there was a misnamed parameter and some errors
in the use of namespaces.

Changes to build system, file system and IP sockets

The functions for differentiating between a file and a folder did not
handle 'other' filesystem objects correctly. I have now defined a file
to be a regular file, symbolic link (Unix only), socket (Unix only) or
named pipe. A folder is defined as just a directory. Character devices
and block devices (Unix only) are neither files nor folders.

Visual Studio headers now define some constants that I had to define
locally, so put a compiler switch to define them only for older compilers.

Prevent this returning error status if the monolithic build has
already been unmade

Fixed problem caused by relying on '.' being in PATH

Allow making the tests directory to be skipped
