Change of method - use OS name, not Kernel name, because this is a
more correct way of selecting platform

Added ability to select which version of wx to use.

When doing static link, exclude the -lstdc++ as it seems to cause
symbol clashes - maybe should never have been included in static links
anyway. It is still present in dynamic links. Added reporting of the
link type.
