Add the image directory on the start of the PATH

Reorganisation and renaming of the files to better show their
purpose. Also setting up for the possibility of creating makefiles
for other languages by identifying code that could be common and code
which is gcc-specific.

Broken up big gcc.mak into separate files init.mak, dindir.mak and
build.mak as supplied by DJDM. DJDM found the trick needed to include
separate files from one master one - the MAKEFILES_LIST variable. This
is compatible with make v1.80 onwards, i.e. 2002 onwards.

DJDM added extra rules for image filename generation.

AJR added some more image filename generation rules.
