I tried setting the margin-left to -1.3em instead. Have a look:

I'm using Firefox 3 to set the layout. IE7 renders it a bit further right with less space between the bullet graphic and the text. :(

I've also found a possible solution to the text wrapping issue:

#news {
	 word-wrap: break-word;
}

I read some mentions that the above will work in Safari too, but I have no way of testing it.
