What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Install and activate stexbar on Win XP
2. Activate stexbar in the Views > Toolbars menu
3. Reopen an explorer window
What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Expected: Explorer will memorize the toolbar locations and display them as
they were before.
Instead: Explorer seems to reset the locations of all toolbars including
address bar and menu. They all appear crammed together in one row.
What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Windows XP SP3
Please provide any additional information below.
Deleting the ITabBarLayout registry keys does not work. My first suspicion
was that they got corrupted.
When deactivating the stexbar the problem goes away and Explorer again
correctly memorizes the toolbar layout.

I can't reproduce this. I've installed StExBar on several XP systems now and never
seen this kind of problem.
what other toolbars do you have installed? Maybe one of them is interfering?
Is the StExBar properly enabled in the internet options plugins tab (in IE, go to
internet options to find that tab).

I now also tried StExBar on my home computer also with XP SP3 and I have the same
problem that the layout of the toolbars gets lost and is not saved correctly. My
Explorer settings are customized a little bit. I configured my explorer to not save
view settings for every folder and I configured that Explorer windows are launched in
their own process. I checked if this is causing the problem but it's not. Do you have
any other suggestions what I could try?

Sorry to ask the obvious here:
did you unlock the toolbar, rearrange the toolbars to your liking and then lock them
again? Even then does it mess up after a restart?

Yes I tried settign up my toolbars as you said. Also restarting does not make a
difference.

I have no idea why this would happen. I've installed the StExBar on several computers
myself and know of many more successful installations with no issues. Neither on XP,
Vista or even Win7.
Can you maybe upload a screenshot of how the toolbars get messed up?

I'm having the exact same problem on my work machine running Windows XP Pro 32-bit w/
SP3. The only non-standard bar I have other than StExBar is "Snagit" (from the SnagIt
screenshot software), and that one is disabled as I don't use the bar.
I can test if the issue exists on Windows 7 32/64 or Windows XP x64 as well later.

Mine does the exact same thing as in the screenshot. New work laptop with xp and sp2
on it. I only have IE6 installed if that somehow matters. No other extensions or
toolbars installed. I'll try to update it if its not blocked at work and see what
happens.

This isn't really a fix, but maybe it will help. I put on IE8 and it didn't change a
thing, but I did notice that it only pushes bars above it. So I move it to the second
bar and now it doesn't squish, but it only works if its the second one, otherwise it
looks like the screenshot christian posted.

I had the same problem on Windows XP SP 3 with IE8!
But it does only exist in StExbar 1.7.1! As I removed 1.7.1 and reinstalled 1.7.0 the
issue disappeared.

I can confirm that when I have the StExBar as the first toolbar below the menu over
the full width that the layout is saved as expected.
If I put it in the second row after the menu and the standard buttons, the standard
buttons and the menu are put into onew row after reopening. The address bar in the
third row stays were it is.
If I put StExBar in the third row, StExBar stays were it is and the remaining
toolbars above are merged into one row.

I can confirm both counts: Version 1.7.0 working fine, upgraded to 1.7.1, and then I
have the "scrambled toolbars issue".
I re-order them, close and re-open the window, and again they're "pushed" to the top.
Also, placing the toolbar just under the "menu" bar does indeed keep the rest
aligned in their place.
WIN XP SP3, IE 6.

A diff between 1.7.0 and 1.7.1 doesn't show anything (at least to me) which could
explain the different behavior.
But I can tell that this works well on Vista and Win7. It seems only XP is affected
for some strange reason.

I can confirm comments 13 and 15. It seems that any toolbar which is placed before
StExBar gets pushed up onto the top line. If StExBar shares a row with another
toolbar then it also moves onto the top line. If it has a line to itself, only the
toolbars before it get moved up. Can you reproduce this now?
As a workaround I can put StExBar onto the same row as the menu (since I'm using
small icons, although the filter edit box is a little too high). Not quite what I
wanted, but at least it stays where I put it.
Using XP SP3 with IE8.

I also have the same issue. Windows XP SP3 with IE8.
Screenshot attached. I have each toolbar on it's own row, I have unlocked, change the
order (with stexbar at bottom, as well as other places) locked the toolbar again and
upon closing the window and reopening...everything is back to the way the screenshot
shows.
Unable to workaround issue to keep my explorer window the way I need it thus have to
uninstall. Will check back later to re-download once this has been fixed.

@Simon: Did you change anything between 1.7.0 and 1.7.1 on your development and
compile environment. Maybe 1.7.1 was compiled/linked against newer libraries. Maybe
you updated your Windows/Platform SDK...
