In general, it's not really safe to use IP addresses with STAF, particularly when starting processes. You can get away with them in many cases, but starting processes is generally not one of them. The reasoning is a little deep, so I'll skip it, unless you REALLY want to know. We are planning a number of improvements in this area for version 3.0 of STAF (due late 3rd quarter), including being able to use IP address in all the places you mentioned.
