Apologies, forgot to hit reply-all. Then shove: cerr << "Woohoo" << endl; on line 553 (just after the conditional block). I suspect that the error is thrown in evaluating the conditional for cmpFileName -- so you'll never see the woohoo, but you should get to see which files are being statted, and thus have a place to start investigating. It doesn't smell like a normal permissions issue though -- for a start you should get an errno of 1 (EPERM), or 13 (EACCESS). Tis odd -- if this doesn't work run a debug build in a debugger and set a breakpoint on STAFFSExists, if you then get a stack trace every time it breaks you should know the line of which file triggers the error, and we can then debug it pretty easily (hopefully anyway). I was able to logon as a non-root user, and successfully started STAFProc. Which OS and STAF versions are you running? The RC 20 is ENOTDIR (Not a directory). I'm not really sure why we would get this error during startup. Maybe someone else on the list has some ideas. Now, when I try to restart it, I get the following error: STAFProc version 2.3.0 initialized In main(): Caught STAFException Name : STAFBaseOSErrorException Location : Text : STAFFSExists: 20 Error code: 10 I've spent a bit of time with the source code, but I can't tell what is happening here during the startup. Can anyone give me a clue about what I need to do to get STAFProc to run. If I "su" to Root, it starts up normally. However, I definitely do not want to run as root on this box. When I go back to being "qa", it continues to have the problem shown above. At one point, we also got a message about being unable to start on a socket (but I don't have the details on that, and it's not happening now). Thanks for your help.
