An executive summary is that while OpenSSI does give the impression of one large 'virtual' machine, processes still execute on specific nodes in the cluster. This means that if you have one node running apache, and that node fails, OpenSSI won't magically restore apache service on some other part of the 'virtual machine'. However, if you instruct OpenSSI to run apache on multiple nodes in the cluster, you can then use LVS to transparently loadbalance between them, meaning that one node failing will not discontinue the service entirely. For things like MySQL+Apache, I recommend not running OpenSSI, and just using LVS. -IK |
