Thanks for the investigation and writeup. It's good to know that there 
was a reasonable explanation for those seemingly weird things happening. 
If you found that SSHGuard was behaving in a way you didn't expect, that 
might be an opportunity to improve the documentation or the program. 
Always open to suggestions.
