Hello everybody! First of all, I'd like to thank Junqing Wang for his contribution in=20 overcoming the flaws of the server's current offside recognition. Once=20 the Christmas holidays are over, here in Germany, I'll encourage my team=20 to test the proposed modifications and report our experiences with it.=20 I also want to address an issue which has been on my mind for some time=20 now. As a matter of fact the 3D mailinglist is dead! Plain dead! Now,=20 since the mailing list is the official place to post news as to the=20 progress of the leagues and the development of the server, to discuss=20 proposals for new modifications, future research directions etc. I can=20 only come to one conclusion: The server development is dead, too!=20 I mean, let's face the facts: Half a year has passed without _any_ word=20 from the official committees as to what's going to happen with the=20 league! As RoboCup '07 is approaching time is running out for server=20 changes beyond minor cosmetics. After all, the teams need time to react=20 to changes, test the new setup, adapt their team, etc. All of that=20 cannot happen overnight. This is why I believe the time for server=20 changes has been wasted. Yet again...=20 I keep wondering what the technical comittee has actually been doing=20 since RoboCup. Maybe you guys have been awfully busy, planning new=20 server modifications. But then, why doesn't anyone bother to keep the=20 community up to date! After all, we're all interested where we're=20 heading. Effectively, the committee has been virtually non-existent.=20 Personally, I think this situation is not acceptable any longer!=20 Together we need to find new ways to reenergize our league. Most=20 importantly, we need to find a way that people actually have time to=20 develop the server as a primary part of their actual research. This=20 simulation environment is way to complex to handle its further=20 development properly only in spare time. Beyond calling for commitment=20 yet again every year at the RoboCup championships, maybe we need to=20 think about how the server development can be turned into a research=20 topic in its own right rather than concentrating research efforts on the=20 respective teams only. I think, the work done by the UTUtd team for the=20 3D development competition was a bold step in the right direction.=20 Let's start the discussions! Bring it ON! Regards.
