> I would like to use the Virtual Host Login plugin but I am wondering if > I have to all all 1000 virtual domains to config.php of this plugin. Well.... three answers ;> 1. no. not if you don't need per-domain configuration. you don't need to add anything to that array if you only need username re-mapping. per the last line of the section about the virtual_domains array in the README: "Finally, be aware that you do not need to put anything in this array for vlogin to work. If you only need user name reconstruction and no other per-domain customization, then you can leave it empty (or only include those domains that require any customization)." If you need per-domain customization for only some of the domains, then just add the ones you need it for, leave the rest out. If you need per-domain customization for most or all of your domains, then the following applies to you: 2. you have to add all domains to that array in the config file if you are using the vlogin version downloaded from the SM website 3. if you use the version that I am attaching to this email, you don't need to specifically add every domain. There is now an option to have a "global virtual domain", specified with an asterisk ("*"). See the README for more info, but be aware that using the * means that all domains with the * will have similar settings - although they can be customized by using "###VIRTUAL_DOMAIN###" in many of the settings. cheers, paul |

I see no futher differences. On our site, which has over 8k users (http://webmail.wananchi.com), I run SM, just because of it's simplicity. I've never bothered about scalability. The box I used to use was a pentium 11 (450MHz) dual CPU with 1GB Ram and I never had any performance hits. Now I run it on a sluggish Xserve (OS X) and I hear a lot of complaints but since I am not that familiar with OS X, I haven't bothered. In fact I have greatly considered moving it to a Compaq Server (2.4GHz, 1GB RAM). Just to please your boss, this is an ISP environment. -Wash -- Odhiambo Washington <wa...@wa...> "The box said 'Requires Wananchi Online Ltd. www.wananchi.com Windows 95, NT, or better,' Tel: +254 2 313985-9 +254 2 313922 so I installed FreeBSD." I was wondering how scalable SM can be. We want to use it in a University Setting with approsimately 8000 users. We're planning to have this on a P4 2.6 GHz machine with 2GB of RAM, running SM and IMAP. Anyone have any experiences with a large user base? I need to get some documented facts for our Head IT guy before he will agree to roll out SM on the campus. I guess I am posing this question to the commercial users and educational institutions. Our current solution is Skryrix and he wants to move to Horde. He's willing to move to SM if I can prove to him that it is very stable. |

Hi, We have been trying Squirrel Mail for a while now (since the stable = version 1.2.5 all the way up to 1.4.0). During this time we have tried IIRC PHP versions from 4.2.1 to 4.3.2, including a couple RC's. All through out = these versions and some beta ones, our setup has always been unstable. The = problem is that we keep getting logged out of the application at random. Some = times one frame, other times the other, sometimes both. And then sometimes retrying on the still logged on frame, both frames would work again. In the last few days, we have gone deep into the problem to see if we = could sort it out once and for all. * First off we tried to nail down the problem by reinstalling our PHP = from scratch, making sure there was no forgotten change to the php.ini that = could affect this behaviour. That didn't help. * Then we found googling that mm could have issues with sessions, so we recompiled php without mm support. No change. * We found several sessions files in the /tmp folder, and decided to = create a specific folder for the sessions. No change. Though in this particular issue, are the sessions supposed to be that big? (50k - 100k) * We had the server under https, so we disabled it. No change. * We had the server under Solaris, moved it to our RedHat Linux box in = a different host. No change. We don't know what else to try, and are keen to do any tests and give = any information regarding settings in search of a solution. By the way, we = have tried with a number of browsers and platforms, to take that out of the equation. We have also updated our Exim mail server to the latest version. Squirrel Mail is setup so that our users can use it for different = domains. We host ols.es plus several other domains and people access it under the same address, i.e. https://ssl.ols.es/webmail, to read their mail, = whatever their domain. With regards to the PHP settings, the session_autostart is set to on. Trans_id is set to off. We are keen on running any type of test to debug this. We are entirely at the disposal of anyone who wishes to help. We have set up a test account for anyone willing to help. The details = are: https://ssl.ols.es/webmail and the username is 'squirrel.ols.es' and the password is 'mail'. The email address is squ...@ol... Please help us on this one. Is driving us mad. Thanks, Jose |

Hi, We are using SM 1.4.0 with Solaris 9, apache 2.0.45, PHP version 4.3.1 an= d PHP Accelerator v1.3.3r2. We have warnings that, when receiving a mail from a user's list (TO: or CC: includes all the adresses) and the friendly name is included ("xx yy" <xx.yy@zz.aa>), sometimes when Replying to all, the list of recipients is truncated at the first address which includes a name with char>asc(127) for example "Tom=E1s Megia" <t.m@d.c>. What we exacty got was: a@b.c, "Tom=E0s Megia" <b@c.d>,... In the CC text entry we only saw: a@b.c, So the list was truncated. Can some one point out the right way to change the default themes in 1.4.0 You might try reposting your request to the SM-USERS mailing list. When doing so, please include version numbers for SM, php, Apache, etc. as appropriate. You have to change the defaults *before* your users log in for the first time, otherwise you'll have to manually edit their prefs files yourself (take a look at them - the theme info is easy to figure out). - Paul |

What do your IMAP logs say about the attempted logins? If nothing, check to see that you configured your IMAP server correctly in SquirrelMail. -----Original Message----- From: squ...@li... I can manually connect to the imap server without a problem. I am using Courier-imap on Solaris 9. When I enter the username and password in the Squirrelmail login screen, it just times out. The interesting thing is that I can enter bogus credentials and the result is the same. Squirrelmail is apparently not attempting to validate the login. I have adjusted the php.ini timeout but the error remains the same. =A0 Does anyone have a suggestion? Best regards, Michael |

I have adjusted the php.ini without success. I am able to manually log into the imap server without error or delay so I am confident that this is not an imap problem. This running on top of Sparc Solaris 9, Apache 2.0.45, PHP 4, Courier-imap 1.7.1. Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 40 seconds exceeded in /usr/local/apache2/htdocs/squirrelmail/functions/imap_general.php on line 82 What I have noticed is that it does not appear that SM is even making an authentication request. I can place bogus credentials into the login screen and I get the same error. Does anyone have an idea to remedy this? Best regards, Michael D. Peters |

I can connect fine with imap to my local folder on a RH 8 box. When I login through SM I get these error messages: Warning: fsockopen() [ <http://www.php.net/function.fsockopen> function.fsockopen]: php_hostconnect: connect failed in /usr/local/apache2/htdocs/squirrelmail/functions/imap_general.php on line 227 Warning: fsockopen() [ <http://www.php.net/function.fsockopen> function.fsockopen]: unable to connect to localhost:143 in /usr/local/apache2/htdocs/squirrelmail/functions/imap_general.php on line 227 Error connecting to IMAP server: localhost. 111 : Connection refused Is this maybe related to DNS on the box or I should say the lack of since it is not connected to a network yet?
