big patch

I would have submitted this as lots of little patches, so you could easily back them out if need be.  However, since CVS was down, I have a large patch that deals with:

 * Speeding up parsing of messages
 * Smaller code
 * Correct delimiter finding
 * _(), bindtextdomain(), gettextdomain() stuff
 * Numerous patches from eembejay (I think that's his id)
 * And even a bug fix or two

With this setup, we shouldn't see another "undefined function bindtextdomain" problem again ... or so I hope.

I'm not adding it because it is very large, deals with MANY files, and I haven't tested it thoroughly yet.  It looks good, and I am currently using it.  Unless objected, I'll probably submit all these changes on Saturday.
