For 1.2 to 1.4, I would install 1.4.2 in a parallel but separate
directory, download and install all your plugins fresh, and pull up the
conf.pl script in BOTH versions side by side and copy over the relevant
config values manually from your 1.2 installation.  Using the same data
directory should work without problem (it is outside of the SM
directory, right?).

This isn't necessary, however, and most things like plugins can actually
be copied straight over, assuming you have the newest versions
thereof....
