Well... for a start, you've not logged into the server in your telnet example, so that really doesn't prove there isn't anything wrong with your IMAP server. Can I suggest the following: telnet server 143 A01 LOGIN username password A02 LOGOUT What does it return? Does it let you login? Out of curiousity, what PHP version are you using?
