Hi all, I take it everyone has seen the hotmail beta interface? For squirrelmail (and its implementers) to keep up with competing email products it does need to start paying real attention to the interface. Whilst there are a heck of a lot of purists who like the cut down, bare functionality-only feel of squirrelmail, the average user is *really* impressed with "drag and drop" and "right-clicking" and will go where they can find them. The average user isn't represented on these lists but they definitely do have a lot of power over companies/universities etc where the majority of users are mainly non-technical. If the average user doesn't think the interface is pretty enough for them then there goes 90% of the userbase. Could we possibly have a dedicated roadmap as to what is outstanding on the templating side of things? I've just downloaded and installed 1.5.1 to check out the state of affairs myself but it would be nice to have a central (wiki?) place for the templating status. (if there is one I must have mised it - a link would be great). I'd love to help out on this side of development and will be able to do so once I have a better idea of what actually is left to be done. As many productivity models state - it is important to define the "Next Actual Step" required to get closer to the goal. If these are defined somewhere easy and public we can chip in with some contributions. All best wishes, Daniel P.S. I note that there is only the "default" template. It would be useful to have a showcase template in 1.5.1 to demonstrate the current templating capabilities. |
