Can your tree structure be modified or toggled to enable sub-folders to open upon hover, rather than requiring mouseclick? With deeply nested folders it will require a lot of mouseclicks to reach a bookmark. With a long list of bookmarks, all those open folders will make it even longer, making it more difficult (more scrolling) to then use another bookmark, or require the user to first close the open folders. This method of clicking to open folders makes sense when the user needs to use several bookmarks from a single folder, as the folder remains open. However, when the user needs bookmarks from various folders (usually my situation) it is much easier if the folders open automatically on hover, much as the Favorites/Bookmarks menu works in most browsers. There are available resources to do as I'm describing. This is just one example: http://www.brainjar.com/dhtml/menubar/demo3.html |
