I finally have it working. What I did was ... I uninstalled SM, PHP4 and apache. Did a dpkg --purge, to remove all config files. Reinstalled apache and PHP4 from stable (1.3.26 and 4.1.2-6, respectively). The PHP is a downgrade from what I had. Then I installed SM 1.2.10, from the deb available on the main page. And it all started working again. :-) Not sure which step it was, but I'm back up and running now.
