[SM-PLUGINS] how to modify a system function via SM plugin?

Hello,
maybe someone can give me a hint how a plugin can be
created which should extend the _sqimap_mailbox_list_all_
function in ../functions/imap_mailbox.php.

I've submitted a modification for uw imap public/shared
folder support and had been asked by a developers to
create a separate plugin of it.

If I understand the documentation correctly plugins can
only be added add predefined hook points and it is not
possible to replace a specifiy function of SM.

What can I do to extend this function without hacking the
code every time.
