These days many cell phones and PDAs have web browsers
with small screens (200x200 pixels is typical.)
Squirrelmail is unusable on such a PDA because it's
formatted for a large screen.
Gopher King (gopherking.com) has a service offering a
small screen UI connecting to a POP or IMAP mailbox,
but their service is slow and expensive.
It would be great to have SquirrelMail functionality
and performance with a portal that is formatted for the
small screen, similar to what GopherKing does. I hope
it's just a matter of offering a differently formatted
UI with the same features.

There used to be SMLite but I don't think it has been
updated in a while. It seems that there are some patches
and port SMLite to 1.4, you can find them here
http://www.topolis.lt/squirrelmail/sm-lite/index.en.html
Other than that, once templates are complete, this will
readily be possible, just by adding another template created
for PDAs (which hopefully we will ship one by default)

Take frameless version of mine:
http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=1053768&group_id=311&atid=300311
rip off all the JS and stuff and you are done.
Alternatively, there was a SquirrelMailLite project some
time ago. Google it.
