[Squirrel-sql-users] SQLBookmark 1.0 - How to activate the default bookmarks

Hi

I cannot get the SQL Bookmarks pop-up to open. If I create 2 or more 
bookmarks I can get the pop-up to display (ctrl-j) but the default 
bookmarks like:
crtab,
addcol,
crix

are missing. Do I have to activate some option somewhere? I could not 
find anything in the documentation.

Normally the default bookmarks are created when version 1.0 of the 
Bookmark plugin is used for the first time. When the bookmarks are 
created a message is displayed in the message panel. SQuirreL looks for 
a preferences key to decide whether the bookmarks should be created.

On Linux the preferences are usually stored in:
<user home>.java/.userPrefs/prefs.xml.
The entry key is:
<entry key="Squirrel.sqlbookmark.defaultbookmarksloaded" value="true" />

On Windows there will be an according Registry key.

You may just remove the key to make SQuirreL create the bookmarks again.

I admit that buttons to add and remove the default bookmarks would be 
helpful. Maybe they'll be introduced in  2.1

Thanks, I found the registry key, removed it and now the bookmarks are 
displaying correctly.

I just have a question on development of Java GUI's on multiple 
platforms. Why did you use the home folder on *NIX and the registry on 
Windows? Considering that you do already make use of the home folder on 
Windows for other things like plugins etc. Is there a problem with how 
Windows treats the home folder vs *NIX? Or did you try and make the 
application use all of the features that were provided by the host OS?

For more complex configuration data we use Java Beans together with an 
XML-Serialization framework. For those SQuirreL itself determines the 
place to write the data to which is always the users home directory. For 
little things we sometimes spare us the Java Beans and use the standard 
Java Preference API and this is the one that uses the home directory on 
*NIX and the registry on Windows. A Java programmer only sees the 
Preference-API he doesn't need to know anything about where the data is 
actually stored.
