Ruffin, Do you see this only with the plugin? I know I've seen this behavior without the plugin, and just using the SQL edit buffer. I think this is just how Squirrel SQL works. I can, however, in the plugin make sure to set the input carat to the beginning of the buffer when inserting a bookmark into it, just in case. --joe On Sat, 2003-05-03 at 18:33, Joseph Mocker wrote: > > > > This plugin is a great idea, but I think I've stumbled over a bug. > Seems after pasting in > a bookmark, you have to select the SQL you want to execute or > ctrl-return only executes the > line you're currently on. Hi, I think I've stumbled on a bug in squirrel 1.1-Final when accessing a Postgres 7.3.2 database. To reproduce: 1. Create a view in a database 2. Refresh the Objects tree. (The new view appears under 'View') 3. Right click on the view name and select 'Drop' 4. A confirmation popup opens with "Are you sure?" 5. Execute the drop 6. The following error message appears: java.sql.SQLException: ERROR: "<Your-View-Name>" is not a table. Use DROP VIEW to remove a view 7. The view is not removed. cheers, Denis Denis Grannell, Kapuzinerstr. 45, D-80469 Muenchen Tel: +49 89 201 3672 Fax: +49 89 202 2875 _/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/ |

Hi, > This plugin is a great idea I agree, it most certainly is a huge help. Would it be viable though to make the bookmarks menu hierarchical?. If you could group bookmarks together under a folder icon, I think that would make the function really super. This is the first release of a new, "SQL Bookmark" plugin for SQuirrel-SQL. This plugin allows you to manage commonly used SQL code for easy reuse. The plugin also provides a simple syntax for parameter replacement within the bookmarked SQL. As the SQL is reloaded, the user is prompted to enter values for any embedded parameters, after which the SQL is loaded into the edit buffer for execution. The plugin requires SQuirreL SQL Client 1.1final1 and JDK 1.3+. To install you need to download the appropriate .zip or .tar.gz file and unpack it into the plugins directory within the SQuirreL SQL Client application making sure that you keep the directory structure. Hi Mike, I'm glad SQuirreL is useful for you. > 1) Allow viewing PL/SQL in Packages (this one shouldn't be too big) This should work now. The Oracle plugin adds several new nodes to the object tree including a "PACKAGE" node. Under this node the stored procedures should be grouped by their package. Let me know if this doesn't work for you. > 2) Allow Editing/Recompiling PL/SQL Packages (obviously, this > could mushroom > into a full-blown > PL/SQL editor tool and that is what I'm intending here) > 3) Provide a feature to do EXPLAIN PLANs on SQL statements (I know > this one > is not small either) With everything else happening with SQuirreL at the moment I don't have any time to work on the oracle plugin, however a couple of people have expressed an interest in taking on further development of the Oracle plugin so I'll pass on your request and we'll see what happens. -- Colin Bell http://squirrel-sql.sf.net ----- Original Message ----- From: "CORUM, M E [AG/1000]" <m.e...@mo...> Date: Saturday, April 26, 2003 0:38 am Subject: [Squirrel-sql-users] Oracle Extension Can't Display PL/SQL in Packages > > The tool is great. The tool is great. We are hoping that it will eventually become a replacement for Toad. I installed the Oracle extension because I wanted to look at our PL/SQL. Like most Oracle sites, we have a rule that there shall be no "orphan'd" PL/SQL. This means that all PL/SQL code -must- be in Packages and not just straight procedures and functions outside of packages. The Oracle extension is great but it can't show PL/SQL in packages, only orphan'd procedures and functions. So I have three enhancement requests: 1) Allow viewing PL/SQL in Packages (this one shouldn't be too big) 2) Allow Editing/Recompiling PL/SQL Packages (obviously, this could mushroom into a full-blown PL/SQL editor tool and that is what I'm intending here) 3) Provide a feature to do EXPLAIN PLANs on SQL statements (I know this one is not small either) Mike Corum Monsanto |

Hi Denis, Forget my comment below, this is an issue _only_ with the current CVS code. In 1.1 having the cursor on the next line will still execute the code. However having a blank line between the SQL statement and the caret will cause this problem. Hi Denis, I've tested SQuirreL with slightly older versions of PostgreSQL and it has worked fine. The SQL entry area allows you to execute multiple SQL statements as well as single ones so the actual text selected in the entry area means something. The Help file that comes with SQuirreL explains it: "If a single statement is entered then pressing <ctrl><enter> will execute just that statement. If you only want to execute part of the SQL entered then highlight the SQL that you want to execute and press <ctrl><enter>. To only execute a single statement amongst several statements (separated from the other statements by at least one blank line) within the SQL entry area then click on the line containing the statement that you want to execute and press <ctrl><enter>." What it _doesn't_ explain (because I've only just realized it myself) is that if you put the cursor on the line after the SQL and then press <CTRL><ENTER> it _doesn't_ execute. E.G. (if | represents the cursor) select * from table| will work but select * from table | won't work. Let me know whether this is your problem. I intend to fix this in the next release. -- Colin Bell http://squirrel-sql.sf.net -----Original Message----- From: Denis Grannell [mailto:dgr...@we...] Sent: Monday, 14 April 2003 2:29 To: squ...@li... Subject: [Squirrel-sql-users] Object tree displays OK, but SQL commands won't exececute Hi folks, I hope someone may be able to throw some light on the following odd behaviour. I have a postgres 7.3.2 installation on Solaris9 that I want to access from Windows PCs using the squirrel 1.1-final client. The windows version is Windows2000 Professional/SP3. The java version on the PCs is: "Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.3.0-C)" I am using a jdbc driver called 'pg73jdbc2ee.jar.zip' that I got from the Postgresql java website. The driver loads up OK and appears in the client as active. I can connect to the database without any problems. In the client GUI I can view everything under the 'Objects' tab such as table content, table columns, primary keys, views, etc. If I click on 'Content' for any given table I get an instant list of all the rows. However the SQL tab is not working. I can type in any simple select statement (select * from <tablename>;) for the same table for which I just viewed the content and nothing happens at all. No list, no new tab, nothing. I'm not a java expert, so I would appreciate any help on how to try and troubleshoot this. thanks Denis _________________________________________________________ | Denis Grannell, Kapuzinerstr. 45, 80469 Munich, Germany | | Tel: +49 89 2013672 Fax: +49 89 2022875 | |_________________________________________________________| |

Hi, I too faced the same problem in my new laptop which had java 1.4.1_01 and had posted the problem here. The problem is attributed to a bug in JRE 1.4.1 + ATI RADEON video driver. More details about this bug could be found at http://developer.java.sun.com/developer/bugParade/bugs/4713003.html edit the squirrel startup script and pass the following startup parameter to java: -Dsun.java2d.noddraw=true jayanand. --- Maury Hammel <mh...@cr...> wrote: > Ruffin: > > > Every time I close SQuirreL (1.1final1) on my laptop (an IBM > ThinkPad R32 with > > Win2k), my cursor starts moving awfully slow and all other > interactions with > > the OS stop (no alt-tab, not even ctrl-alt-del does anything). > Eventually the > > cursor will lock. > > [snip] > > > I'm using java 1.4.1_01, Standard Edition. > > Try upgrading to 1.4.1_02 (or downgrading to 1.4.0_x). Every time I close SQuirreL (1.1final1) on my laptop (an IBM ThinkPad = R32 with Win2k), my cursor starts moving awfully slow and all other = interactions with the OS stop (no alt-tab, not even ctrl-alt-del does = anything). Eventually the cursor will lock. SQuirreL is about the only Java app I use daily on my work machines, but = I've tried a few trivial examples without issue and JEdit works just = fine. Closing with Ctrl-Q, the "x" button on the window, or closing the = console that's opened SQuirreL will all cause the same lock-up. This = happens whether I start up with the *.bat or by double-clicking the = *.jar. It seems to only happen after I've opened a connection to a = datasource. I'm using java 1.4.1_01, Standard Edition. As a random red herring, occasionally my Gateway laptop at home will = lock up when I close Eclipse and/or some other Java apps I've written. = I do not use SQuirreL at home, preferring to leave the rdbms work at = work for the most part! ;^) SQuirreL works fine on my tower at work, fwiw, so this is a relatively = strange error that I can't quite debug. If anyone's seen anything = similar, I'd be interested to hear what's what. If somebody has things = working on an IBM R32 with 1.4.1_01, please lemme know! Thanks, Ruffin Bailey |

Now that Apple has finally released Java 1.4 for OS X, all the platforms that SQuirreL runs on have Java 1.4. I'd like to make 1.4.0 the minimum version of Java required for the next release of SQuirreL. Are there any objections to this? -- Colin Bell http://squirrel-sql.sf.net |

My apologies if you have already received this email but it doesn't appear to have been sent out to the list. Col ==================================== From Colin Bell <col...@bi...> Date Monday, March 31, 2003 12:58 pm To squ...@li... Subject Re: OS X Hi, I have some comments here from Lynn Pye who built the OS X installer for SQuirreL. ====================== Hi Colin, I can help. I noticed the same behavior after I upgraded as well. Apple didn't so much upgrade as add 1.4.1. Any applications packaged prior to the arrival of 1.4.1 will, by default, continue to request and use the 1.3.1 VM, unless repackaged or tweaked. The tweak is simple, so I will provide instructions here which you can pass on, and then we can discuss whether to provide a repackaged version for 1.4.1. In OS X, an application is actually a specially named folder with a special directory tree beneath it. For the package I put together for SQSC, the install creates a folder named Squirrel SQL Client, in which several directories are created as well as the actual application. Right click the application (SQuirrelSQLClient) and select 'Show Package Contents'. This will open a new Finder window showing a single folder, 'Contents'. Double click that folder. In this folder, you will a file named Info.plist. Double click it to open it in the the Property Editor. Expand the tree until you see an option named 'Java'. Expand Java. Look for a suboption named JVM. If you see it, it will likely say '1.3'. Change it to '1.3+', which will look for a minimum VM version of 1.3 and will use the highest version available. This will enable 1.4.1 to be used. But wait, if you do just this, the next time you launch SQSC, your Dock icon will become a bland icon rather than the acorn! Apple has acknowledged this as a bug. To avoid this problem, expand the suboption under Java called 'Properties'. One option will be named 'com.apple.mrj.application.apple.menu.about.name'. Remove it. If you have already "lost" your Dock icon, you will have to remove it from the Dock and re-add it to get your icon back to normal. |
