#1467 unusable modal-dialogs on macos 11 big sur

[retrodude]

On macOS 11, Squirrel becomes unusable if you open any modal-dialog like "Global Preferences". Then the screen begins to flicker (refresh) permanently.
Starting with Big Sur there is a new option in "SystemPreferences->General->Prefer tabs when opening documents". If you had selected "always" (which was default I think) the described behaviour will make Squirrel unusable if you open a modal dialog.
Until the bug is fixed you can workarround with setting this option to "Never".

With "Prefer tabs when opening documents" set to "always" is see the problem, too.
The other options "never" and "in full screen" on my Big Sur instance work alright.
