[SQLObject] Question about endswith('ID') on foreign keys

Hello.
I am working with a 3rd party's database schema that has foreign key
columns without the ID postfix.  Before I go marrying alter scripts to
their database, can someone explain why this is mandatory for all
foreign key columns?  I can see in col.SOCol() that despite my custom
Style() class, "ID" always gets appended to the column name.  btw...
