Dieter, Find attached some interesting (?) modifications to the Invoicing code. 1. The 'Update Form' now (basically) does the same thing as the 'Add Item'. I just used a wrapper. This was a user request, because they couldn't understand the process. Now they can happily press 'Update Form' instead of 'Add Item' and it'll all still work. 2. The 'Due Date' is recalculated on 'Update Form'. This is also just as useless because most of the time you post today. Oh well. Patch if you like (made against 1.4.5). Hi all, I've been really busy lately, but I've managed to make a chart of accounts for the Dutch market. I'va also translated the templates and used the Danish translation as an example. the question is this, what should I do about the taxes on the invoice-template. When I use the foreach string I get a tax 0% and the 19% tax. When I look in the Danish templates I see they use if strings. When I put those in the only thing I get is nothing at all. What did they change in the underlying source to be able to use the if string. Greetz Jouk |

The taxes will only show up on an invoice if there is an amount. You can't use <%if ...%> within a foreach block. Dieter Simader http://www.sql-ledger.org (780) 472-8161 DWS Systems Inc. Thanks, Joseph and Miguel, for the input about hosting and hardware set-up. I personally work on a Mac with OS X, and have only a fleeting familiarity with Linux. Our SL will be accessed by about 5-6 users around the country: one heavy user at an order entry position, one occasional user in a managerial/accounting capacity, and 4 sales reps entering orders only sporadically. Are there others in the user community who have integrated SL with an InterChange shop? From reading the InterChange user list, this is not a trivial exercise. I was going to contribute my work back to community when it was finished but I have not had the spare time reqired to finish. I don't currently run an IC shop though so it hasn't been a high priority. Interchange has an interface for in Vend::Accounting.pm and Vend::Accounting::SQL_Ledger.pm that was introduced by Mike fairly early in the 4.9 releases. The problem is that it is only one way, basically Interchange does everything then posts a AR invoice to somerize the transaction. That means that your inventory is only maintained by interchage, it doesn't use any of SL's inventory features. Making difficult for your sales rep's/whoever to do sales orders/invoices from SL without first checking inventory in IC and it throws your finacial statments out onless you manually adjust your COGS and inventory accounts, if I can recall correctly. Another problem is that Vend::Accounting::SQL_Ledger.pm only works with old versions of SQL Ledger and it needs direct online access to your accounting database. I might be able to get back to working on this if there is enough intrest. -- Tony Fraser -- System Admin (CCNA) Email: to...@sy... Webpage: http://www.sybaspace.com/ Phone: (250) 748-0818 ext. 28 |

As I only install software on my servers in package form I whipped up a quick RPM for sql-ledger. The RPM is for RedHat 7.2 and has the dependencies set for LaTex support. The package installs the guts into /var/www/sql-ledger. If you are not using the PDF output simply install with --nodeps or install the src RPM, edit the spec file, and recompile. The RPM will set the correct permissions on the templates and user directories for you. You will still need to setup Apache yourself. I am busy with the next RPM where I will automate that. Hello, The company I work for is based in Luxembourg and sells computer hardware and software and mobile products (SMS, WAP, ...). I think SL would be the ideal solution for our shop, so I began to test SL a week ago. Everything went well but since a few days, SL does not print my invoices anymore when I select "postscript" and "print". It returns the following page when I want to print: ---- printing output --- Status! Facture 1016 envoyé à l'imprimante (translation: Invoice 1016 sent to printer) ---- I think that this is the normal output? At the beginning everything went well, as I said. For testing purposes I have replaced the 'lpr' command in the printer field by 'cat >/tmp/print.ps', but the file is not created. I have written a small shell script called lprdummy, with the permissions 777 and placed in /sbin/ and put this program name into the printer field in the configuration. --- /sbin/dummylpr.pl --- #!/bin/sh cat >/tmp/print.ps --- The file /tmp/print.ps is not created. So I have commented in the sql-ledger/SL/form.pl in the sub parse_template the last line ($self->cleanup;). The temporary files are created and if I run lpr with the temporary postscript file, it is printed... I run a registered charity in Canada. I recently installed SQL Ledger 2.0.2 and am populating the chart of accounts, etc. I am a little unclear of how to handle USD transactions. The charity receives donations in both Canadian and U.S. dollars, and pays expenses in both currencies, and has separate bank accounts for the two currencies. The currency of record for the charity is Canadian dollars. In SQL-Ledger I have set up USD and CAD bank accounts. But I am not sure what is the best way to use SQL-Ledger to handle the USD to CAD conversions. To me, it would seem best to have USD amounts showing in their USD amounts, and then have a clearing take care of the conversion to CAD. I would like that these postings to the clearing account to occur automatically every time a USD transaction is posted. But how best to set up the chart of accounts and how best to enter the amounts using the existing modules. Or, would it be better to construct a new module to handle these USD transactions? E.g. (assuming USD 1.00 = CAD 1.60 on the day the donation was received) Donation received: DR CR USD Bank Account $100 USD Clearing $60 Donations $160 Transfer CAD Bank Account $80 USD Bank Account $50 USD Clearing $30 Is there a way to enforce the use of the USD Clearing account anytime a USD transaction is entered? I notice that SQL-Ledger has some multicurrency support, but it is unclear to me how that feature is used. Any suggestions most appreciated. Conrad Richter |

There is no need to have a clearing account. Foreign currency transactions always come in pairs. The native amount and the exchange rate difference. If there is a gain or loss it is also recorded. Thanks David and Tim (Lai) for the suggestions. I was, finally, successful in getting DBI installed. At least now, I don't get the "DBI not installed" error message. Also got the DBD installed. Michael: Your welcome! I don't know if any solutions companies have had great success in convincing clients to outsource their corporate financial systems yet. And I believe this is including big companies like Oracle. So I do understand your dilemma in needing to have SL up an running locally. However, what I mean is you should not have any problems in getting a consultant to help you setup SL. I think the last time I setup SL on a x86 box including O/S install it took me only a matter of hours. I suppose someone who had done the same on a Mac platform could reproduce the same result, and saving you times. Regarding to your current problem, more information is probably needed to help you find a fix (i.e. are you even seeing the admin page?). Best of luck in getting your beast up an running. Since version 2.2, I have a problem, which was not present in 2.0.9 (my first experience with SQL-Ledger). The fact is, that creation of a user is OK (administration login). If I click the user again and edit something, no error is reported, but a "sql-ledger" (my database user) password is gone (when I enter again, the field is empty). Of course no login with that user is possible after. But, if I type the password again (2nd time I am editing user properties), the error is reported when I click save (FATAL: Password authentication failed for user "sql-ledger"). We are talking about database user password and not sql-ledger user password all the time! What is interesting is, that even if the error is reported, everything is saved fine and I can login to the sql-ledger as this user after. If I enter 'Preferences' now, the same error is reported every time I save and exit. Even though, all of the information is accepted and works fine all the time. I believe this has something to do with caracter sets. I am running SQL-Ledger on Fedora Core 1 and have chosen also UTF-8 as my character set in SQL Ledger, since we use a few special characters in Slovenian language (other possibility would be Central Europe ISO-8859-2, but I believe everything is going into UTF-8 direction...). I've noticed that files that came with SQL Ledger installation are ISO-8859-15 encoded (talking about members file and initially created users.conf files in users dir.), and I've tried to play changing the encoding of these files (UTF-8 or ISO-8859-15), but the same is happening all the time... Perl scripts are UTF-8. Is there anything special I've missed, or my configuration is really so weird? Otherwise everything seems to be running fine, as much I've found out until now (but I am still translating everything and entering accounts, so not very much of the testing has been done until now). Except a minor annoyance, that decimal signs in preferences windows for taxes are still english (dots) and not as everywhere else, but I can live with that without a problem. And, of course, that the 'all' file structure is slightly changing with versions, so I have to enter all translations again and again. Maybe it would be good to create a script which would enable to import old 'all' file and just correct the new at the end. If anyone has had similar problems, I'll appreciate any suggestion how to get rid of the annoyances. Otherwise, we have a great program with SQL-Ledger, I believe. I'll be very happy to contribute with Slovenian adaptation as soon as I have it more or less done (hope to do that during these holidays and in January). Hi, I've found a quite strange behavior of SQL Ledger, for which I would say it is a bug. Or, if somebody believes it is a needed or useful feature, I'd ask to explain it and what a solution could be. The situation is following: 1. In case the wrong VAT amount is specified on vendor invoice, in Slovenia you always have to pay the higher amount (if too low, properly calculated one, if too high, the specified one...). Why I am not surprised?! But, OK... 2. In the company I have to pay every month (mobile phone costs), they sometimes improperly round up the VAT amount on their invoice. So, sometimes I can handle it in a normal way (through a system provided by SQL Ledger), but sometimes I need to manually enter 2 invoice items, which are mathematically wrong (it is not exactly 20% of VAT...). Therfore, I've specified 2 additional services, one for service which does not include any VAT, and another one which does not include any VAT either, but the expense is posted to VAT account itself. The third account remains as it was, with 20% VAT checked (for 90% of their invoices). Because of these 90%, the vendor has to have the same VAT checked, of course. If I enter the invoice (with 2 separate items), the VAT part value is considered twice (to the account, marked as "Record in" in the invoice form - credit part). Also such invoice post is not balanced, since on the debit part both transactions are OK. If I uncheck the VAT in vendor properties (which should be checked for 90% or correct invoices!), the problem is resolved and everything is posted properly. A temporary solution for this would be to have vendor twice in the system, but this can be a workaround only. I would definitely like to have each vendor only once in the system, to be able to track the total turnover etc. I believe the logic of tax marks in service (or, part) specification and vendor (customer) specification should be simple AND (meaning if both the product and a supplier are flagged for tax, it is considered, otherwise not). Or? By the way, I can not reach any of mailing list archives (any language) since about a month ago or so. Is maybe a problem on my side (I am subscribed, can change my options, can access other mailing list archives as VOCP one, but not these - I always get a response that it is for members only) and how to resilve it? Kind regards, LUTi PS: I've sent this message before, but it's been refused due to zipped screenshots attached. Do you get a refund for the VAT that you overpaid? A stupid question but did you try to talk to the vendor to correct the problem (after all they have to pay the higher VAT to the government) or give you invoices with VAT included and then you just let SL calculate the correct amount.=20 I would probably change the vendor. I'm pretty new to thi=3D >s exchangerate stuff, and accounting :( Hi Klavs: When you're handling exchange rates, in your chart of accounts there should be a provision for an exchange rate gain account and another for exchange rate loss. In my opinion and considering the object of SL, one exchange rate per day should suffice, if not, you can always register an exchange rate gain/loss. How to do it? Go the general (transaction) ledger and input a separate transaction for the gain/loss by affecting the proper accounts. One word of caution though! Be careful with the kind of accounts you're affecting and keep in mind their respective nature! In case of doubt, speak to your accountant for proper pointers. As a matter of fact, having your accountant revise the whole chart of accounts and letting it be customized to your particular business' needs is never a bad idea ;-) ------------------------------------- Andr=E9s Gazs=F3 Gazs=F3 & Dol=E1nyi Abogados Telf. : +58 (212) 761.77.29 761.33.19 Fax. : +58 (212) 761.82.96 mailto: a....@ca... ------------------------------------- |

It sounds like the httpd.conf was set correctly to add the proper alias. Also be sure that the *.pl files are set with 755 permissions and that the web server is configured to recognize .pl as a script to execute. >=20 > I have followed the instructions, line by line of Paul Teeter > very detailed how-to file, but can not seem to find the problem >=20 > I set the ownership to www:www on ALL files at this point > and added to >=20 > Also: setup.pl does not work as I get an error of: > NO LWP as root: perl -MCPAN -e shell install LWP >=20 > ANY pointers would be thanked. >=20 > Regards, > John Turner >=20 >=20 >=20 > ------------------------------------------------------- > This SF.Net email is sponsored by: Oracle 10g > Get certified on the hottest thing ever to hit the market...
