Hi, Thanks for the advice. I have trying to make it work following your tips. Unfortunately I have not been able. The problem still persist. I am attaching here my httpd.conf file if you can try to seen where I am missing. Sorry for bothering everybody, but really I want to run sql-ledger. Hi folks, until now I resited but since the topic of PHP and some other things came up several times allready ...... In no way I want to start any language/os/db discussion. Last year I started to do a little project for a friend. He is running a motorbike repair shop and needs a management system for his business. I started doing this in PHP and found SQL-Ledger when I had allready done quite a bit of coding. So I decided to integrate SQL-Ledger into my project by porting it to PHP. It's maybe 80% finished and I stopped working on this aspect for the moment because I needed to have other functionality working before this. Finishing the accounting is now maybe the 2nd or 3rd item on my list, so it should not be to long.... I decided not to mix perl and PHP to avoid complexity and because I had to make some changes to make it fit with the stuff I did before anyhow. If you want to look at it goto: http://www.michaeldiehl/com/~michael/etc and try QDERP and QDERP with a drop down menu. Try the frame version with the tree menu first; it's more stable. The login information is sqlledger/sqlledger. Use instance "000". The translation is db based, so if you don't use english and there are no entries maintained you'll see english anyhow. Please don't delete anything and don't change the menu so that other people can use the same account. I have two pop-up functions which might be interesting to port back to perl: 1) calendar pop-up (to see it working go to "Master Data"->"Mat./Ser." ->"Create" and click on the "?" next to a date field. 2) generic search help (example on the same screen, the "?" next to the vendor field) There was a dicussion about finding Materials some time ago on the list. Of course, with something like this you can't use text based browsers anymore.... There is a link to reports bug as well, if you feel like this, and even a little bit of documentation. The README under documentation gives an overview of the existing and planned features. Since the stuff is not really in a releaseable state I've put a password on the download link (sqlledger/sqlledger). The files are updated every night so don't exspect everything to work. Have fun, Michael |

Hi everyone, for internal usage, I have made some changes to sql-ledger, in order to show dots and commas when showing currency. This is really useful, for seeing how much we have to show. Two questions: 1) I have used the Number::Format module to produce the result. Is this acceptable for sql-ledger, so to include the patches in future releases ? 2) How can I modify number shown in reports ? They are put in an array, but then they are used to perform calculation. And last a plea: is it possible to see the 1.4 version as a development version of sql-ledger ? I would like to cooperate to the new version, as the things included (like more tax level, for example) are really really useful for me. Regards Paolo -- Paolo Bizzarri Icube S.r.l. |

Ok folks, I'm not an Accountant, and I've got some general questions/brainstorming ideas that I'd like to bring to the group so that I can configure this to my needs. I've had SQL-Ledger installed and used for about 2 months now, however, since most of the employees here are die-hard windows nuts, getting anyone to use it (other than myself) have come to be just painful. I've made some touch-ups to the code, and I've made it a bit more user-friendly. However, I am trying to figure out the best way to do the following: 1.) Track Petty Cash 2.) Payroll (this is a big one) 3.) Formatting Output to a Beta-Brite LED Sign (this is just to show me in the Data Center who has logged in and logged out so that I know when to kill my distributed.net daemon) 4.) Split Invoicing (We charge a person 35% down and the rest at stages in the project. Is there an easy way to do this?) There had been some discussion on the list as to #4 in the past few days, but nothing too serious has come out of it. Can someone give me ideas on the other three? > > I didn't understand step 5, and step 6 you can probably skip. > Step 5 simply means that you should create a .htaccess file in the admin directory. This will not prevent users from executing (i.e. including) the config files, but it will prevent Apache from "handing" the files out to users who request: http://www....com/sql-ledger/admin/config Step 6 would probably be needed if the system has a number of "local" user acounts. Step 7 is also absolutely critical! If your SQL-Ledger/Apache server is also your PostgreSQL server, use the following line in pg_hba.conf host myledgerdb 127.0.0.1 255.255.255.255 password (assuming your database for SQL-Ledger is myledgerdb) Be sure NOT to have a line like this in the file: host all 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 trust Step 8 is entirely about how granular your security control needs to be. Implement it to suit yourself. BFN Andy |

You have to specifically tell Apache it's ok to run scripts outside of it's default cgi directory. The answers are in the SQL-Ledger FAQ, but I too had problems understanding at first. There's so many things to install and configure and if you've never done any of it before, it can be quite a daunting task! :( I think your problem is with Apache, so here's what you need to do for it. The first thing is to add support for running .pl files as cgi scripts as the first point in the FAQ suggests. Edit your httpd.conf file (mine was in /etc/httpd/httpd.conf) and searched for "To use CGI scripts". You should find a section like this: # To use CGI scripts: AddHandler cgi-script .cgi If it isn't there already, add the following as is indicated in the FAQ. AddHandler cgi-script .pl Next I'd skip to the bottom of the FAQ to the section on security and follow all these steps. Don't make the mistake I did and assume that Apache is running as the default user nobody.nogroup. I found out mine was running as wwwrun.nogroup which is the default configuration under SuSE. If you search your httpd.conf file for "User/Group", you should find entries like this User wwwrun Group nogroup Change step 2 in the FAQ to match these settings. Of course you will also want to change the path in all these steps to match where you've put the sql-Ledger directory. For step 4, I'd just copy the lines as he has them there (with adjustments to the sql-ledger path if needed) and place them in the httpd.conf file. If you search for "<Directory" you'll find the section where you want to put them. Just move to the bottom of the last entry (they end with </Directory>) and past it all there. Make sure the path is correct for where you put sql-ledger. I didn't understand step 5, and step 6 you can probably skip. Hope this helps. ...Izzy |

I know how you feel. I've been so busy myself lately, I've hardly had time to reply to much mail. It's tough finding time to do the things you have to, never mind the things you want to. :( Take all the time you need. My intention wasn't to hurry anyone along with their projects, just to get an update. Thanks for providing it. And thanks to Sylvain and Dieter too. Hey Dieter, I was just thinking it may be useful to have a contrib ftp site and a mailing list for announcing contributions. It'd make it easier for everyone to share things they've been working on. I for one have been working on an invoice template I'd like to share once I'm finished it. It can get messy trying to share things via a list. Could you set this up at the sourceforge site? Thanks. ...Izzy |

Individual transactions are recorded in acc_trans. The trans_id is the id from the header tables (ar, gl, ap), accno refers to the account number in the table chart and transdate is the transaction date. Greetings, I'm in the process of trying to figure out how to import data from other acctng packages (notably Quicken). The customer and vendor tables are easy to figure out. However, can anyone advise a set of heuristics/routines for the rest? I've got about three to four years worth of data which I'd like to bring over. Thanks! Following my previous emails, here is a copy of the screen I receive when calling setup.html (which is a copy of setup.cgi). Whenever I try to click on "Add User" (or List Users) I get a message : "Netscape in unable to find the file or directory named /var/lib/apache/sql-ledger/admin/$script, Check the name and try again". When I try to call from Netscape's File, Open Location, sometimes it says that file not found and sometimes it brings me to "http://localhost" with the famous apache page announcing the success of of its installation. Thank you for your hints Ibrahim __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! Auctions - buy the things you want at great prices http://auctions.yahoo.com/ |

Yes, it is said so. With KDE 1.?? I succeeded in getting Arabic characters only in KEdit and that thanks to ar.kmap written by Alsaid. Unfortunately with KDE 2.0 I used to get garbage when trying to surf with both Konquerer and Netscape. I don't know how far sql-ledger supports Konquerer. If it does, then it will be interesting to see how much we can benefit from it in porting sql-ledger to Arabic. I will try during this weekend to sort out my Arabic installation and the installation of sql-ledger itself, because inspite of the changes suggested by Dieter (upgraded to perl-5.6.1), I still cannot go further than the first screen when trying to setup user and netscape complains that it does not find the directory where the scripts are lying, while it infact is on that same directory. Hi abdalla, That's a very a good idea. I am more than interested. It will be great to have it in Arabic. I will be ready to proof read it and even participate in any way I can. My only handicap is that since more than a year now I have not been able to make my Linux machines speek Arabic, largely because I have not spared enough time for that. But your idea will definitely push me to take it more seriously. Regards Ibrahim Shaame abdulla wrote: > can you please add me to the list. can you please add me to the list. Actually I am interested in meeting Arabic accountants because I am translating sql-ledger into Arabic. I need someone to proof read the translated version and make sure that I have the correct accounting terms (I am an engineer by profession). I had one accountant who helped me with some terms, but I need one or two more people. Your name will be mentioned in the contributors section of the Arabic translation (if thats OK with you of course). |

With perl 5.003 you can't use the latest DBD-Pg version. You got two choices. Install an early DBD-Pg version (0.69 ?) or install at least perl 5.004 I recommend upgrading perl. follow the instructions outlined in the FAQ (http://sql-ledger.org/misc/faq.html) for a Redhat system. Did you install the postgresql-devel rpm?
