I did both ping and ifconfig and they show 127.0.0.1. I also did a chmod on all members to 777. I'm still getting the same error message. Is there somthing in Apache I have to do? Check for permissions to the directories that you are trying to access. Also type ifconfig and see if it lists the loopback or 127.0.0.0 address or type ping 127.0.0.0 if it says that it can not reach addresss it means that the network was not setup. What kind of operating sytem are you using? Look for a file called hosts That file is the place to put name to IP number mappings including localhost Localhost is usually set to 127.0.0.0 which is a fake IP address that justs routes back to your machine There are other things that could be causing this error such as: have you installed a web server and is it running? have you set up your machine for TCP/IP networking? If you are using a Linuc machine, there is all sorts of how-tos at www.linuxdoc.org Wayne (inf...@pi...) wrote: > >Hi, >On the installation instruction for SETUP A USER I get ans error. >When I enter the URL >http://localhost/sql-ledger/admin.pl I get the error >Netscape can not find localhost. Hi Oscar, You can install over top. 1. save your master templates, that's the ones in the templates directory 2. As a precaution, backup cd /usr/local/sql-ledger tar cvf ~/sql-ledger.old.tar . 3. install over top cd /usr/local/ tar zxvf sql-ledger.1.4.12.tgz change the /usr/local directory to wherever you have SQL-Ledger installed. Lee Yuen Wai, Start simple. What do you see when you type http://localhost/ (assuming you do that fro= m your linuxbox)? If you get the same error, there is a good chance that apache was not installed/configured properly. I don't know if it has changed a lot, but I have tried Corel linux in the past and was not happy with it at all. At the time they used (I thought) quite strange ways of configuring and t= hir desktop environment was unstable. Anyway. First get apache running (configuration file is called httpd.conf= ) to show plain html and try to install a simple .cgi script as well to kno= w if have your perl and cgi capabilities set alright cgi scripts you can fi= nd e.g. at www.cgi-resources.com). The table creation under Postgresql was completed but when I tried to log on to http://localhost/sql-ledger/admin.pl I got the message "localhost not found" from the netscape browser. I'm afraid I am quite new at this and would appreciate any help. Regards Lee Yuen Wai |
