Dieter and folks, We updated to 1.6.3, after finding that our invoice dates (%invdate%) and due dates all printed as "0, 2000" (after updating to 1.6.2). Unfortunately, we're still seeing this with the 1.6.3 downloaded some minutes ago. Is this the same date bug labelled "fixed dates for GL reports?" This error is caused by how numbers are processed by your computer.
Somewhere along the line your machine thinks that the result of adding
11.86 and 1.19 is 13.050000000001 and not 13.05 IMHO this should not
happen but apparently it does.
The workaround. In GL.pm add the following before line 77
$debit = sprintf("%.2f", $debit);
$credit = sprintf("%.2f", $credit);

I think what Dieter is trying to say is that the files don't have the necessary permissions to allow the web server to write to them. If you change the permissions of the users directory you should be fine. The command would be something like this: chown -R nobody.nogroup users from the directory above the users directory. Did you use the admin.pl script to create the 'test' user and/or
database?
I've got a similar error except it was "can't locate /.conf ...".
I'm thinking there may be some form artifacts laying around between
calls to the script that cause the /.conf error so they may also cause
some other non- user/database names to appear.

I just installed the software today on Linux 7.1 It all went very well, in fact I was suprised how well it went. Since upgrading from 1.4.7 to 1.6.2, we can no longer process receipts. The proximate cause seems to be a delete on acc_trans with an empty account number. Any info on this? Seems like for ever but a few weeks ago I ran into a problem while
upgrading my system. RHL 6.1+ to RHL7.1 and PostgreSQL 7.0.3 to 7.1.3
and last but not least SQL-Ledger 1.4 to 1.6.2. Lots of interesting
complications that appear to be mostly worked out except for one - so
far.
I get no items showing up in my invoices (old ones). The correct
invoice number is in the 'ar' table but I don't find the number in the
'invoice' table. Well maybe I do but it appears to have been munged
about.
What is the relation of Invoice number from the 'ar' table to the
'invoice' table?
TIA,
Rod

As mentioned with some of you before, we're creating module(s) to allow for the tracking of time for projects associated with customers and the invoicing of that time to those customers (billing by project) We have implemented a groupware solution using www.phpgroupware.org and a modified timetrack module. This system allows for the users to use a constant web based interface for email, contact lists, project lists, and time entry - and keeps them away from the accounting system. We are customizing sql-ledger by changing it to refer to the phpgroupware database tables as well as the sql-ledger tables to allow the sharing of contact, project, and time information It took us a while to figure out the sql-ledger programming style since we don't know a thing about perl. At this point we have project info being retrieved by using a modifed Form.pm that grabs the info from the second databse that's read from the user config files. Invoices are being made by project using a modifed is.pl and IS.pm and we are currently working on getting the time information. We've added a button at the bottom of the invoice screen called "Time Selection". The intention is to bring up a screen listing all the time entries associated with the previously selected project with a pick box beside each entry. The user would pick the time entries to be billed (or all of them) and click on a add to invoice button at the bottom. The time entries would be added to the invoice as a separate item for each time entry - pulling the bill out rate from the phpgroupware database So - this is where I have to start writing code (instead of just modifying existing code) My question is ... Do I need to create separate files (.pl & .pm) to start this new form? |

Inventory is added and removed when you purchase and sell the item. A report can easily be built from the data in the invoice table. Does sql-ledger have a report to print inventory transaction logs for individual parts? By the way I'm new to this program and have not got it working yet. If it doesn't have this capability then I need to look elsewhere. If the data to print a transaction log is in the database then I could write a print routine for it. I guess what I'm asking is, how does the inventory module add and remove parts from the system? Thanks, Stephen Flynn Network Administrator AFA Products, Inc |

Perhaps my situation is more relevant. My corporation is in Canada with both Canadian and US clients. Each country's clients are billed in that country's currency. Under the Canada-US Tax Treaty, my corporation is taxable only in Canada because it doesn't have a permanent base of operations in the USA. Therefore, my books are kept in CAD$ only. The way I've found to handle this is to have the USD$ invoices include entries for the exchange to all relevant accounts such as A/R and USD$ revenue. These entries are equal and opposite so that the customer sees these lines as net zero irrelevant entries. However, this does keep the books viable for immediate CAD$ reports. -----Original Message----- From: Steve Doerr [mailto:sd...@sw...] Sent: August 23, 2001 22:11 To: sql...@li... The Phillipine based company would keep their books in Phillipine peso's. Then the foreign currency financial statements are translated to US dollars before the parent reports results. Translation rules are very specific, with some items (i.e. monetary assets like cash and receivables) translated at current rates, and historical cost based assets and liabilities at historical rates (like a building). Revenues and expenses are translated at the rate on the transaction date, or an average for the period. The parent would make a journal entry to reflect the net translation effect. There isn't really a need to handle multiple currencies, because each operation would and should keep their books entirely in the local currency. |

I'm also here in the Philippines, but AFAIK, we don't have Philippine
Dollars, we do have Philippine Peso, however...;-)
And the FOREX Rates are quite volatile, last week it was at around PHP53
to a $, now it's PHP51, perhaps next week it'll be PHP52...;-)
AFAIK, if you haven't converted your money from the local currency, to
that of your company's mother currency (i.e. U.S. dollars), then you
should base it on the current FOREX rates. Once you have converted the
local currency, however, to that of your desired currency, then you can
start using that figure for the future...;-)
Perhaps you can relate it to the stock market, on having paper
loss/profit and real loss/profit...;-)
At least, that's my 2 centavos worth...;-)
Cheers,
John Clark

[Jijo] I just thought I'd raise a concern here. I'm from the Philippines and here, believe me, the foreign exchange rates are more volatile than the rise and fall of the tides. That would be something quite difficult to deal with, although I don't think first world countries experience such volatility. [jeff] If a US company did business there, purchased inventory and sold goods in the local currency, but reported back to a US concern, would everything be accounted for in Phillipine Dollars or US dollars? |

I was curious what 'traditional chinese' would look like. Of course, I'm using the US-english version of Windows and Internet Explorer. I added the 'languages...' listed below to internet options. English (United States)[en-us] Chinese [zh] Chinese (Tiawan) [zh-tw] And created a SQL-Ledger user that has the chinese language preference. I left charset blank. I also left stylesheet blank to avoid font problems. With this user, I only see the font-glyphs that are in the same character-code, not the chinese characters shown in the full chinese sample on the sql-ledger website. Is what I'm trying to do possible? Does it have to do with the charset, or do I need some special chinese font? |

I realize this is a pretty complicated feature, but is the basic structure of SQL-ledger conducive to someday having the capability to take transactions in more than one currency? This is a complicated issue, I don't know whether standard practice for an international company with remote offices is to convert everything to the local currency for each transaction, or to have exchange-rate transactions to get things back to the home currency at certain points of the fiscal year, or during advantageous exchange rates. |

As the postgres user: createuser juha (answer yes twice thereafter)
pg_shadow is a view that accesses the pg system catalogue - specifically
that tables that contain user data.

Netscape is somewhat slow on the uptake. ;-)

I have been installing Sql-Ledger 1.6.0 to Linux: Mandrake 8.0. I downloaded perl-DBD-Pg-0.95-1mdk.i586.rpm from rpmfind.net (as it wasn't in distribution?). /etc/init.d/postgresql is also modified at line 82 (postmaster is started with -o -i). Current installation is in single user mode and dnhttpd is used. What I can do for next error message? Processing request from 127.0.0.1:32832 Executing CGI at /home/juha/sql-ledger/dnhttpd/exec/../../login.pl DBI->connect(dbname=juha;host=localhost;port=5432) failed: FATAL 1: SetUserId: user 'juha' is not in 'pg_shadow' at SL/User.pm line 112 Can't call method "disconnect" on an undefined value at SL/User.pm line 120. Compilation failed in require at /home/juha/sql-ledger/dnhttpd/exec/../../login.pl line 65. Netscape gives message like: try later... page is not available. Later I'd line to translate this (locales) to Finnish. Juha |
