Hi all, I downloaded sql-ledeger and its dependencies and got everything running on my RH6.2 box no real problem. (Well I had to push the path /usr/local/www/sql-ledger onto @INC in the configuration file required by all the top level scripts, but that seemed like a small nit.) I got the admin.pl first page up, however, when I drive down to the "create database" button and click on it, I get a script failed on require in the platform generic admin.pl. When I trace the problem down, it seems that the bin/mozilla/admin.pl is failing on compile. I entered the text 1; __END__ in several places after the "uses: lines. In some cases the script compiled but then called a function that (for obvious reasons) was no longer defined; in others it failed to compile. (perl runtime script compilation.) So the problem doesn't seems to be the "uses" declarations. What other code could sometimes compile and sometimes not ? Does it conditionally load perl modules that may depend on LD_LIBRARY_PATH? (I haven't worked out how to get apache to set this before calling a cgi.) I'm relatively experienced with perl, but not with debugging cgi's that consume post events. Any hints will be appreciated. My thoughts were to use pdf or - when local machine software matures -
XML with the user providing the XSLT to match their checks.

Bill? Vendor invoice?

So we're still needing the other checkbook functionality. Cleared
transactions - from the statement, balance to date, notes/comments, etc.
Would there be a new table to handle this check stuff? Check number,
date, to, notes/comments (Incoming check number/Invoice number), type
(check, deposit, reconciliation - possibly handled by the sign of the
amount), amount of check or deposit.
TIA,
Rod

First off, thanks to everyone who has made SQL-Ledger possible. Very nice code set.... We are considering incorporating the SQL-Ledger accounting system into our Applicant Tracking System (manages resumes, contacts, jobs and what not). We are very interested in the multiple payments feature slated for 1.8. Hopefully, we can help at some point... Anyhow, after using SQL-Leder for a while, I've noticed that my Postgres log file is filling up with the following and I wonder if it was something I have set incorrectly... NOTICE: Adding missing FROM-clause entry for table "customertax" NOTICE: Adding missing FROM-clause entry for table "partstax" NOTICE: Adding missing FROM-clause entry for table "partstax" NOTICE: Adding missing FROM-clause entry for table "customertax" NOTICE: Adding missing FROM-clause entry for table "acc_trans" NOTICE: Adding missing FROM-clause entry for table "acc_trans" NOTICE: Adding missing FROM-clause entry for table "acc_trans" NOTICE: Adding missing FROM-clause entry for table "acc_trans" Regards, -paul |

Multiple payments will be added for version 1.8 This ties in with check printing, although the actual printing of checks has not been resolved yet, I'll probably opt for pdf to print checks. The way it will work is that you enter payments the way you do now with previous entries blocked. You then enter an amount, date and optionally a check number or let SQL-Ledger generate the number. You can also use same check number for more than one open invoice. When you process the payments I'll generate a report for now for the *check run* until I find something suitable for check printing. Several months ago I asked about web-based checkbook applications. I
got several good suggestions but then got busy and had to put it aside
for awhile.
Well now I'm back and after my many-hour fiasco with guncash (Redhat 7.1
and Ximian updates broke it totally) I'm ready to roll my own. Since I
will mostly be using it with SQL-Ledger I'm looking at how to make it
play nicely with SQL-Ledger.
The two options I'd find useful is to pull a list of Invoices
outstanding when making a deposit slip and pulling Vendor names etc.
when writing checks.
Anything else I can add to the want/wish list?
Cheers,

You can add a new sub in the is.pl file. Add a button "E-mail Text
Invoice" then add the sub
sub e_mail_text_invoice {
}
use the other email sub and substitute the filename and remove all the
formatting codes. There is no need to introduce new variables just add a
new sub.
You can do the same for saving the invoice to a file.
The long term goal is to move to a XML interface and produce forms in a
variety of formats, based on a filename extension variable.
I believe your assumptions are correct, the majority of people are using
html aware email clients. Your email is the first in three years asking
for a text version. That should tell you that there isn't much call for
it.

You can save the invoice from your browser. To use plain text invoices copy the invoice.html to invoice.txt and edit the file. Then edit email_invoice.html and <%include invoice.txt%> instead. If you want to keep these when you setup new templates add the template in the master directory (that is the templates directory) To add the template to the Default set call the file Default_invoice.txt Dieter Simader http://www.sql-ledger.org (780) 472-8161 DWS Systems Inc. Hi everyone, I would like to know if it is possible to configure SQL-ledger for the following thing. In Italy we have a special kind of taxes, that are payd on certain services. These taxes are paid by the customer for the supplier. Here is an example: I order to Marco a program for 1 dollar. Marco receives 0.8 dollars, while I have 0.2 dollars I have to pay as taxes for Marco. This is done monthly, so I need an account to accrue all these taxes. Can someone help me on this ? Mjello. Just started using sql-ledger today, and have been impressed with it so far. However, two hours ago, I stumbled on a problem I have since been trying to solve to no avail. In the GL, I try to enter a transaction with three rows. Account 1061, credit 115.05 (Asset, Account, AR_paid, AP_paid) Account 2310, debit 23.01 (Asset, Account, AP_tax, IC_taxservice, CT_tax) Account 5700, debit 92.04 (Expense, Account, AP_amount) However, I always get the same error, that debit and credit are out of balance. If I remove the decimal part, everything works out nicely. Normally, I use the system in "1.000,00" mode, but I tried resetting it to "1000.00" mode, and making special care of placing the correct commas or dots. Nothing worked. I have tried tinkering a bit with the Perl-code, but I'm too inexperienced to find the problem (I thought I could manipulate parse_amount, but it didn't help). Can anybody tell me if I've found a bug (and how to solve it), or if I'm the bug? I'm using version 1.6.5, Apache 1.3.20, dbd-pg-perl 1.01, dbi v1.19 and perl v6.2. Thank you very much in advance Kenneth Vestergaard Schmidt -- "Ah? Well, maths," said Death dismissively. "Generally I never get much further than subtraction." |

When I unpack sql-ledger into my cgi-bin directory and run admin.pl I get a "No such file or directory" error. $memberfile seems not to be set. Also can you use other databases besides PostgresQL or Orcale. For Instance MSAccess or SQL-Server. I notice that you seem to filter out the ODBC drivers in the SL::Form module. Note I am using windows98 with Apache 1.3.20 and SQL-Ledger 1-6-1. If any one with can help with these issues that would be greate regards Douglas McNamara, Dogleg Systems, Inc. |

Perhaps you highlighted the date and pressed the spacebar to erase it. This will assign a single space to the date which causes a bad date error. I've run into a slight problem but haven't had time to sort it out. I'm
hoping it isn't 'just me'.
When using Mozilla to access SQL-Ledger (1.6.4) I noticed several of the
modules never complete receiving the document. I looked at teh frame
source and see that there is no ending tags for body or html.
To make sure it wasn't a Mozilla problem I tried netscape but in this
case the document seems to finish but the frame source still has no
closing body or html tags.
I'm pretty sure it isn't a server problem because all my other
scripts work fine.
I'll be looking over the code in the next few days to find why this is
happening. I didn't find a developer's mailing list so I'm
semi-spamming this one. Dieter, should I contact you directly?
Cheers,
Rod

It's -i However, a better method is to remove the host and port information from the DBI connect string. If you do so, DBI will use the UNIX domain socket to connect instead of TCP/IP. -- "Give me your four year-olds and in a generation I will build a socialist state ... destroy the family and the society will collapse." -- Vladimir Lenin |

I am running the same software, and it works. I think you need to change the postgres startup, so that TCP/IP connections are enabled. I can't remember the command line switch off the top of my head, but it is in the postgres documentation. Hi Greg- You will also need to create a sort of dummy account to make the double entry bookkeeping balance. For example: Your checking account has $1000 in it to start. (Now, I will probably get which is debit and which is credit wrong.) 1) Create an account called say Initial Account. 2) Make a General Ledger entry where you debit checking $1000 and credit Initial Account $1000. 3) Do something similar for all other initial amounts. Inventory is a little trickier. Dieter and others discussed it with me when I asked earlier, and what I got was this. 1) Create an account to pay for the inventory. 2) Create a vendor that is basically yourself. 3) Create vendor invoices for all of your initial inventory and pay for it from the account in step 1. I hope that helps. Don --- Dieter Simader <dsi...@sq...> wrote: > Use the GL and make an entry for the balance. > > > Dieter Simader http://www.sql-ledger.org (780) > 472-8161 > DWS Systems Inc.
