This, I believe is the crux of the matter.

If you are doing cash-basis accounting, I think you technically should not
be using invoices--you should enter cash receipts when the money comes in.

However, DS has given users like me enough rope, which I have used
liberally.  (A situation I prefer.)

That being said, I think technically it is possible to create cash-basis
reports that ignore invoices (and their dates) and just use the cash
receipt date.

But it can convoluted--what cash-basis date would you use for an invoice
line item that is associated with an expense account?  For example, say
you want to book advance payment discounts to a marketing expense and you
put that discount as a seperate line item on an invoice using a special
part number.  You can't use the invoice date, in case the invoice is never
paid.

I guess you would book this as cash when the invoice is fully paid.  A
partial cash payment would not trigger it.  There are probably other
complicating wrinkles I am not considering, like returns, credit memos,
etc, etc.

I'm not an accountant, but I've thought about this one a lot.  Improved
cash-basis reports was the first item on my wish list.  :)

[SL] Recover lost dataset password?

I cant remember the password to use when setting up a new user with their
relevant dataset. How can I recover this? I know the postgresql admin
password and can get into the databases.

I have a data set that produces this behavior but need to make time to put
in enough printf's so that I smoke it out.

Chris, the difference between cash based and accrual based accounting is 
the MOMENT of taking the revenue.
If you invoice a customer in december,  you could argue the sale is the 
moment you earn money, weather received or not.
That is accrual based, AR debit, revenue account credit THIS year december.

If you use cash based, this december sale should NOT show in this years 
figures, since there is no cash receipt this year.
Maybe sometime next month, so nexxt year. NOT now.  So AR debit,  future 
projects (or some other liability account) credit, both balance sheet so 
no revenue this year.

To me it seems you use a mixture of cash based accounting and accrual 
based accounting?
AR for accruals, cash customers for cash based?

The only report we're trusting to have accurate numbers is the detail =20=

report.  That said, keep in mind that if an invoice is generated in =20
one period and paid in the next it won't, and shouldn't, show up.  =20
FYI - There is also a bug where a changed tax rate can make invoices =20
disappear completely from the aggregate reports (another reason to =20
stick with the detail reports and just use a spreadsheet).

I ended up having to fudge it for tax payments today...the accountant for last 2 yrs has actually taken our trial balance numbers and then entered those into quick books to generate the reports (since they can't make sense of what sqlledger is saying - and I can't either).

Does  it save the users/*.conf file for a new user?

[SL] SQL-Ledger Open Source License Copy ?

Hi guys,

I was wondering whether or not it would be possible to get a look at the
previous SQL-Ledger Open Source License, before it got replaced by the GPL
again ?

The reason I'm looking for it, is because I'm in the same position myself
with regards to a piece of software that I'd like to release Open Source but
I'm not so sure I'd like to go as far as the GPL.

If I could have a look at your other license it would really help me out
alot.

The list has flip flopped back and forth between moderation and no 
moderation for several years.  At times the moderation has been 
oppressive, other times it is acceptable.  Personally, I prefer the 
unmoderated periods - if I have a question that needs answering I want 
it posted fast so others can respond.  I don't want to wait hours, or 
days for some almighty being to deem it acceptable.  As for flames - I 
have lots of filters in my email client, so I rarely see them.  I wish 
the list would let me use my own filters as opposed to imposing theirs 
upon me.

If you're already using a back end content management system for the  
site there may be an RSS plugin already available, otherwise you'll  
need to set it up from scratch and "feed" it appropriately, though  
which one you choose will depend on the host OS etc.

About 2 minutes searching suggests that the package is <http:// 
tug.ctan.org/cgi-bin/ctanPackageInformation.py?id=koma-script> and  
that Ubuntu may even have a .dep for it in their package manager.

LaTeX is a _pain_ tho'.

You, my good doctor, are partly to blame for this too. Rather than kicking 
you off the list as has been suggested many times by others I'll discard 
your flames. Don't like it, don't flame.

I'll be opening the floodgates soon but I'll give you some cooling off 
period because I am pretty sure you will climb the walls when you hear 
that it is partly your fault the list is moderated.

I am sure others will agree that your abusive behaviour is not exactly the 
best thing for a mailing list to have. People are here to get information, 
they are not here to be flamed.

[SL] Problem with PDF templat

Hey-

I just switched distributions.. Before doin this, i backed up all my 
information, and did a normal database restore, which worked fine. However, I 
am unable to make my PDF invoices like I used to... My best guess is I don't 
have something installed.. This is the error I get when trying to print a PDF 
invoice to screen:

[SL] tax reporting

Hi Everybody,

    We're still running 2.6.22 and found a bug where if you change  
the tax rate of a company their invoices at the old tax rate  
disappear from the tax reporting.  (It's not too big a deal as they  
do show up in the detail reports so as long as only one tax rate has  
changed you can back into the numbers with a spreadsheet).
    Which brings me to the actual question - minor bugfixes don't  
always get mentioned in the release notes and there have been several  
updates, does anyone know if a newer version takes care of this?

actually, I know all that, however, what I *WOULD* like to know is why

Hopefully not anymore: Lincense has been changed twice since 2.8 - first
to a non-GPL licence, now -fortunately- back to GPL. Dieter explains his
reasons on the website, have a look at it. I am happy Dieter moved back to
GPL, thanks! -
