Hi I have a CLOB column in oracle and in the test there are no problems,
unfortunately deploying to weblogic I get the exception below. We are using
classes12.jar whereas weblogic uses ojdbc14.jar, I firstly replaced
weblogics jars and classpath settings to use the classes12.jar, but got the
same error, so I pulled weblogic oracle jar into my test classpath to test
if the problem was with the jars but the test worked fine ?? I am really
stuck as to whom this should go to weblogic, oracle, or . I am hoping there
is an expert there who can shed some light. Google did not have a single
match for variations of the first 2 lines!!

OK, seems like Weblogic's pool is among the ones that completely wrap =
all JDBC objects: You don't even get the native Connection on =
getMetaData().getConnection()...

So I'm afraid you'll have to write a WeblogicNativeJdbcExtractor that =
knows how to unwrap weblogic.jdbc.wrapper.PoolConnection. Check the =
latter's signatures: Does it have a method like =
"getPhysicalConnection()"? Such a method would be that basis for =
implementing getNativeConnection.

The last message, I got it :-) now I just want to laugh.. the method to =
get
the native driver is:

oracle.jdbc.OracleConnection and from there it all works, now to figure =

all the others :-)

This was a good exercise. Thanks for your help tracking things down. I
have added a WebLogicNativeJdbcExtractor that uses reflection. We
probably should test this in WLS 6.1 and 7.0 as well.
Juergen - do you want to wait for 1.0.3 so we have more time to test and
refine it. It's in the sandbox for now.

Just to let you know i have run with the
WebLogicNativeJdbcExtractor Thomas checked in (using a
cvs build)all of today and it works a treat, no

The WebLogic wrappers are dynamic proxies and they supposedly support whatever the underlying connection supports, including any extendsions. See http://dev2dev.bea.com/products/wlserver81/articles/WLS81JDBC.jsp I'll keep trying. Will see if we can create a WebLogicNativeJdbcExtractor based on what Bronwen discovered. FWIW, the latest Oracle 10g JDBC driver seems to support standard JDBC
syntax even for CLOBS that are more than 4k. What took them so long? :-)
This did work with a large CLOB

If you can make sure that it works on Weblogic 8.1 at least, I'd suggest =
to put it into the main codebase right away. There's not much than can =
break other than compatibility with other Weblogic versions (which we =
don't claim with this version).

This was a good exercise. Thanks for your help tracking things down. I
have added a WebLogicNativeJdbcExtractor that uses reflection. We
probably should test this in WLS 6.1 and 7.0 as well.
Juergen - do you want to wait for 1.0.3 so we have more time to test and
refine it. It's in the sandbox for now.

That's close to what I have available here. I'm using the 9.2.0.3 ojdbc14.jar driver though. You might want to try downloading the latest driver from Oracle's OTN site and see if that makes any difference. If that does not help, could you email me a small testcase that I could try here.
