Hi Juergen,

can you put the "JDOTemplate in non-tx mode" feature req in the roadmap? 
You said in the forum that you want to look into that in 1.3? In the 
meantime i am trying to send you a proposal for this in the next days.

Will have to download latest snapshot to reduce the chance that 
JDOTemplate is being outdated (only looked at 1.2.5 final so far).

You can also split up your monolithic application.xml in several
smaller files that contain beans that are logically related (per
layer, for example) and load them together as one context. The beans
in each files can refer to beans defined in other files without any
scoping issues involved. In our app, we have dedicated context files
for quartz-related beans, Acegi-stuff and view-related beans, and also
dedicated files for different staging environments (for instance, for
local env. we don't use JTATransactionManager but
HibernateTransactionManager). They are loaded up as one application
context.

Has anyone considered an open source BeanFactory that uses EMF to
serialize out application.xml configuration?

Application.xml files get huge. Is there a link out there for best
practices on managing them?

Currently a BeanFactory can inherit from another BeanFactory.=20

This means that you can have multiple application.xml files but this
adds scoping for references.=20

In some cases I don't want the scoping (I want to reference across
application.xml files that are at the same depth in the hierarchy).

If EMF was used to represent the DI model then you could selectively
serialize beans to any files you want.

Ideally there would be a new type of reference that would resolve an EMF
reference too although that can be implemented with a FactoryBean or
PropertyEditor in today's BeanFactories.

protected boolean isFormSubmission(HttpServletRequest request)
protected boolean isFormChangeRequest(HttpServletRequest request)
respectively in AbstractFormController and in SimpleFormController, do 
not throw Exception?

Just using RequestUtils.getStringParameter requires a try catch block...

a couple of minor issues/enhancements left to address; see our JIRA road map
for details.

there are no significant changes to be expected until 1.2.6 final.

You could implement "ApplicationContextAware" container callback which 
will inject the instance of the current ApplicationContext that the bean 
is defined in. Then you could cast it to 
"ConfigurableApplicationContext" and call its "refresh" method.

I take it the old numbers were lost in conversion.  That's too bad... would it 
be out of the question to pull an old backup?  Even then, I have no idea how 
hard it would be to map between the old and the new numbers.  If a table 
could be built with the old and new, then it would be a simple lookup.

Yoiu c_can_ subscribe to an entier forum, but only to get  a daily or 
weekly digest. There is no way to get it to send you individual posts as 
emails.

In regard to the recent forum upgrade, I've run across several messages that 
refer to other threads via URL.  Here is an example message body:

This link does not work.  Would it be possible to create a redirecting 
"viewtopic.php" that could translate from the old URL format to the new 
format, or is some of this information lost?

I notice the new forum software allows one to subscribe to threads (so that 
you receive e-mail notifications).  What I'm wondering is if the software 
provides a maillist style option, where I can receive messages posted to 
certain forums (not just threads) in e-mail form, just like a mail list?

This is correct - Java 1.5 does keep generic type information relating
to fields and method signatures (accessible using the new #getGeneric*
methods on Field and Method). I'm taking advantage of this for type
inference in Spring Rich's data binding system.

One other setting you will probably want to tweak in your user options 
is the choice of the editor to use when posting. By default this will be 
"Basic Editor", but you may want to change it to "Standard Editor", 
which adds some formatting controls, or "Enhanced Interface", which 
allows a full WYSIWYG interface using DHTML.

You do need to edit your profile to set your proper timezone, as this 
will not have transferred across successfully. This may be done in the 
"Edit Options" page of the User Control Panel. You may also need to edit 
any custom signature you have defined for yourself, if it has a quote in 
it, as " came across as \"editing, as " came across as \".

I'm pleased to announce that we've changed forum software from phpBB to 
vBulletin.

While phpBB has served us decently well over the last year, we've also 
had a number of issues with it. vBulletin has a better user feature set, 
and behind the scenes, a much better management experience. Importantly, 
it also has a very clean import path from phpBB, preserving all existing 
users and posts, the latter being especially critical as the thousands 
of existing posts are an invaluable resource.

All existing posts should have come across without issues. The one 
exception is that any post that included (such as in a code sample) the 
standard XML escape sequence of &lt; which stands for '<' will in the 
imported version just have a '<'. There should be no cases or next to 
none cases of this though.

Note that any threads you were subscribed to previously (either because 
you explicitly subscribed to them, or because you checked the 
appropriate check-box when creating a thread) will need to be subscribed 
to again.

All user accounts should have imported successfully. Note that any user 
signatures containing quotes in them will need light editing, as " came 
across as \".

Be aware that as opposed to the old phpBB vehaviour, when displaying 
threads in a forum vBulletin defaults to only the last month's worth. 
Another value (e.g. all posts) may be easily specified via the dropdown
