The jpetstore autobuilds version is automatically build during the nightly build, so you could give it a try without too much effort. Also, if you need more intermediary builds (to test jpetstore with autobuilds for example), just ping me and I'll trigger the build... A few days ago I checked in ServiceLocatorProxyFactoryBean. I originally did a prototype version of this prompted by a couple of weblog entries by Mike Spille: http://www.pyrasun.com/mike/mt/archives/2004/11/06/15.46.14/index.html http://www.pyrasun.com/mike/mt/archives/2004/11/07/12.58.49/index.html Basically, the idea is that if somebody doesn't want to use the existing lookup method injection, because it seems too 'magic', they can instead define service locator interfaces like interface TestServiceLocator { TestService getTestService(); } or interface TestServiceLocator { TestService getTestService(String id); } Then the proxy factory actually creates an a proxy which implements the interface to internally do a normal getBean call and returns the object. This proxy can be injected into the client code to be used as needed. I put it in org.springframework.aop.beans since it depends on AOP classes. In some respects, that's not a great package, since this is not at all about AOP or even a generic proxy mechanism, but if it was included in the normal beans hierarchy it wouldn't have the dependent classes included with it in the base jar.. Don't know if this of any helps .... I was having trouble checking out Spring CVS for the last few days, and as it turned out somehow the struts.jar in lib\struts dir got tangled. Removing the jar and re-checking out work just fine. I am using WinCvs client on Winsows XP machine. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Darren Davison" <da...@da...> To: <spr...@li...> Sent: Tuesday, January 04, 2005 6:09 PM Subject: [Springframework-developer] CVS commits from Eclipse Is anyone else having trouble committing to CVS from Eclipse? I consistently get IO errors waiting for confirmations. The commits always seem to succeed but it leaves me with a false conflict in the eclipse workspace on every file in the previous commit. It's happenning to me on 2 different boxes, one running eclipse 3.0.1 on Linux and one running WSAD 5.1.2 on Windoze. Annoying. Actually, Axis does *not* require the server-side service endpoint to implement an RMI port interface! (As far as I remember, GLUE doesn't either.) This means that you can avoid an RMI port interface completely: just specify a non-RMI service interface at the client side, and let your service endpoint class implement that non-RMI service interface on the server side. On the client side, our new mechanism that uses JAX-RPC dynamic calls should work with any JAX-RPC implementation, despite the lack of an RMI port interface. On the server side, this will just work with JAX-RPC implementations that accept plain service endpoint classes. I've adapted JPetStore accordingly, dropping the RemoteOrderService interface completely. Much nicer, avoiding the double service interface. On second thought, I recommend this strategy: Don't bother with an RMI port interface unless you need to. I've tested all of this against Axis 1.1. I tried Axis 1.2 RC2 too, but it fails with some mysterious "character found in array data" (or similar) message. Doesn't have to do anything with the above, though: It fails with the Spring 1.1.3 JPetStore too. BTW, I've also noticed that Axis doesn't work with JDK 1.5's default XML parser, despite the latter being derived from Xerces! You need to drop in Xerces 2.6 into jre/lib/ext to make Axis work. I do this on JDK 1.4.2 anyway, but I would have thought that this wasn't necessary anymore on JDK 1.5... Juergen -----Original Message----- From: spr...@li... [mailto:spr...@li...]On Behalf Of Juergen Hoeller Sent: Tuesday, January 04, 2005 5:55 PM To: spr...@li... Subject: RE: [Springframework-user] JaxRpcPortProxyFactoryBean with Axis local transport? Michael, Indeed, the Call interface is used underneath Axis' port stub implementation. However, we can't access it there, as it is hidden behind the JAX-RPC stub API. On this occasion, I've implemented an option that I've had in mind for a while: JaxRpcPortProxyFactoryBean working with JAX-RPC dynamic calls rather than with JAX-RPC port stubs. My main intent was to avoid the need to specify an RMI interface as "portInterface" when working with a non-RMI "serviceInterface". This new option kicks in when you don't specify a "portInterface" and the "serviceInterface" does not extend [java.rmi.Remote]. JaxRpcPortProxyFactoryBean will automatically use the JAX-RPC Call API then, instead of a port stub. When using the Call API, new corresponding hooks are available, in particular the "postProcessJaxRpcCall" method. The current Call object gets passed in there; you can set properties etc or cast to the Axis implementation class and call a method there. This should give you the option to call "setTransport" now. Using the JAX-RPC Call API gives a lot of flexibility, as it allows for more customization than the JAX-RPC stub mechanism. And of course, it avoids the need for an RMI port interface on the client side. (You still need an RMI interface for JAX-RPC compliant server-side export.) The JAX-RPC stub mechanism might involve some optimizations that your JAX-RPC implementation applies, though, which you might lose when using the Call API. Therefore, I still recommend to specify the RMI "portInterface" when available (which will usually be the case when doing export via JAX-RPC too), unless you want to customize at the Call API level. I'll commit this tonight, so it should be available in the current snapshot tomorrow (http://www.springframework.org/downloads/nightly). Please give it a try! Relevant is the transport that's set on the Call object created as shown above. This Call object is hidden within an AxisClientProxy which is in turn used as the InvocationHandler of a dynamic Proxy. Some way to access/configure that Call object would really help me as I'm stuck with a related problem where I need to set the style of the call to WRAPPED. That's great, Colin! I'll give the revised JPetStore a try as soon as I can. I originally planned such an upgrade for 1.2 RC1, but it's a good fit for 1.1.4 too. iBATIS 2.0 is certainly already mainstream. As of Spring 1.2, we should probably deprecate the iBATIS 1.x support classes, and remove them completely in Spring 1.3. On a related note, I recently implemented iBATIS 2.0 TypeHandlers that delegate to Spring's LOB support. I put them into our sandbox for the time being, as they were not able to work due to some restriction in the iBATIS TypeHandler support. Clinton addressed that issue in the just-released iBATIS 2.0.9, so I'll complete those LOB TypeHandlers and move them over to the main source tree for Spring 1.1.4. It was incredibly tedious since almost every element in the mapping files had to be renamed, but on the other hand the conversion was very straightforward, with essentailly a one-to-one conversion from old to new, so I hope I didn't break anything. It seems to work ok, but if anybody else has 5 minutes to pull it out and play around with it a bit to try to catch any breakage, that would be good. We'll have to update the jpetstore under autobuilds too. I'm not clear if that's modified at all from the original. If not, the changed files can just be copied over. I get the exact same behaviour with Eclipse 3.1M4, and I do remember getting it with 3.0.1 as well. It's indeed quite annoying, and happens inconsistently. It will happen a lot of the time, but not all the time. As you mention, the commits always in fact work, but Eclipse just doesn't seem to be able to get the confirmation when the problem happens, and setting a longer timeout in Eclipse makes no difference... This is of course using SSH for accessing SourceForge. I do not get any similar errors when I use TortoiseCVS from Windows Ecplorer. I have not tried switching from Eclipse's buil-in SSH support to external (pointing to putty), but I might try that soon to see if it works better. Juergen Hoeller wrote: >Odd... Juergen, I'm happy to remove the CglibJmxObjectProxyFactory. I added that before I did the AOP proxy, and it isnt really needed now. Feel free to change the way that bean method names are detected, especially if it makes it closer to the way other components in Spring work. As for adapters, they are often used in standalone applications where no other console interface exsists - so a way to define them without coupling the application to the implementation class is always useful. I don't have any problems with CVS commits from Eclipse to SourceForge for the Morph project, and I also don't have any problems receiving CVS files for Spring (I don't commit to Spring, so I of course don't know if commits to Spring are working :) I'm running Eclipse 3.0 (or maybe 3.0.1) on Win XP. Odd... Rod mentioned something similar recently. I can just repeat what I said to him: Everything works nicely for me in IntelliJ IDEA. I haven't had any problems with SourceForge CVS in the past 6 months or so. Of course CVS operations often take a while, but I always get clean results on first attempt. Hi Juergen/Keith, Looks like Keith Donald committed some code, causing some of my patches to fail. Here are the updated patches. They should apply cleanly again. Thanks, Chris On Thu, 30 Dec 2004 23:26:09 +0100, j=FCrgen h=F6ller [werk3AT] <jue...@we...> wrote: > I've applied the unnecessary-comma patch and the sandbox-enum patch. Rob, I'm currently revising the JMX support, redesigning the subpackage structure etc. (Nothing committed yet.) I've noticed that we currently have two alternative JmxObjectProxyFactory strategies for accessing JMX-managed objects via an MBeanServerConnection: CglibJmxObjectProxyFactory and JmxMBeanClientInterceptor. The former proxies the full target class of the JMX object on the server, the latter requires proxy interfaces to be specified. Is there a specific reason why we need a separate CglibJmxObjectProxyFactory here? It seems to me that we could simply use our AOP ProxyFactory, like JmxMBeanClientInterceptor, specifying proxyTargetClass=true and a ClassOnlyTargetSource for the target class. This would give us both options with one implementation, not requiring the JmxObjectProxyFactory abstraction in the first place. A single MBeanProxyFactoryBean that uses the AOP ProxyFactory underneath would be sufficient if my assumption above is correct. It could be derived from an MBeanClientInterceptor, analogous to our client-side remoting support for Hessian and co. After all, an MBean proxy can be considered a proxy for a remote service... In general, I strongly recommend specifying a proxy interface for such an MBean proxy. Like for classic remoting, there is not much point in using the server-side implementation class as proxy type on the client side. We can still support MBean proxies that automatically use the server-side MBean class for a CGLIB proxy, but it should not be the recommended strategy. A further thing I'd like to revise is the detection of bean properties. The entire method name pattern handling is currently implemented in JmxUtils. As JMX attributes follow the standard JavaBeans convention, we could use the standard JavaBeans Introspector here, analyzing PropertyDescriptors and caching Method-to-attributeName resolution. We wouldn't need to do any manual method name parsing then. Finally, is the adapters package intended for usage in applications themselves? I guess I haven't fully understood its purpose... Aren't adapters usually set up as part of the JMX server? Or is the adapters package just intended for test environments? But in a test environment, registering a specific adapter directly wouldn't hurt too much... Do we really need an abstraction there? Juergen |

Hi, I have begun to translate the reference documentation in french. I put the current work on a site in order to permit people to help me in this task and/or review translated chapters. The url of the site is: http://jgenea.sourceforge.net/spring/translation/index.html (I have begun with the JMS chapter). If some people are interested to help me, feel free to contact me... Hi, I have a MethodInterceptor and a FactoryBean that extends this MethodInterceptor. In the afterProperties method I do this: ProxyFactory proxyFactory = new ProxyFactory(this.target); proxyFactory.addAdvice(this); this.serviceObject = proxyFactory.getProxy(); I can call the target through the proxy but the MethodInterceptor invoke method is not called. The target is a proxy created by HttpInvokerProxyFactoryBean. What am I doing wrong here? Steven |

Hi Colin, hi Rod, I would be happy to translate the reference documentation in french... At this time, I'm translating the jms chapter to see the time to translate one ( I will put the result on the following site during the next week ). I make a site to present the work and permit reviews... If some people are interested to help me, you can contact me. The site is in a draft version: http://jgenea.sourceforge.net/spring/translation/index.html On which versions of the documentation can I work? Steven Have you checked out the Groovy support (and other scripting language support) in the sandbox? I will take a closer look at the rest of your points next week (on holiday now), but just wanted to point you in that direction now... I think some control over class loading is probably worthwhile, although it probably shouldn't be encouraged for application developers (rather than add-on frameworks) to manipulate class loaders. I've verified that the 'ejbtest' and 'integration' integration tests work with the current codebase. These projects also used to override ContextLoader to load a shared service layer application context, via ContextSingletonBeanFactoryLocator. That functionality was moved into the base ContextLoader class as per one of the JIRA issues, so I've updated these projects to now just rely on the base class. jürgen höller [werk3AT] wrote: >Hi everybody, > >I've scheduled release 1.1.4 for January 5th. Thanks a lot for these Chris, I've applied the doc patches too. One suggestion for any future patches (by anybody) is to make the patches relative to the project base. Eclipse couldn't automatically match these patches to the files as they included the 'spring' portion of the path. I had to manually edit them to take that out. In your case Chris, I think this happened because you generated them by comparing agianst another directory tree instead of against CVS... W/regards to the large number of attachments sent up in an email, a good solution is to include the files in a JIRA issue. That way they don't get lost either..
