Thanks for the responses, I've resolved this now.  The issue was the
inContainer param that Dmitry pointed out, but was compounded by another
error elsewhere in my application code (causing the bean framework to fail
when setting a property because of a conversion error).  This led me to
revert back to the removal of the inContainer param and from there down the
garden path.
