I'll try them tonight.  Also, I will be committing some ResourceBundleMessageSourceTestSuite class when I integrate.  Hopefully we aren't duplicating efforts. 
I'll let you know know what I find.

Yes, you are correct about the line in the code (that was a mod I made to try to break the circular ref problem I was encountering). Perhaps it is my ResourceBundleTestSuite I constructed. 
Juergen, can you point me at a test case you have that does the nested msg source? The problem is only seen by me if it is not resolved in ANY context AND you did not pass in a defaultMessage.
