[Springframework-developer] How the heck do you build Spring!?

Greetings,

I am new to the Spring Framework.  I have looked at the reference 
documentation, as well as a number of books, and I have yet to see how to 
build spring after downloading it.  I see a maven.xml file, so I assume that 
it is a maven build.  Could someone point me to directions for the initial 
spring build?
