Good point regaring aopalliance in spring.jar, Thomas. I wouldn't mind including those interfaces in spring-aop.jar and spring.jar: it's just about 10 KB, and hardly anyone accesses them standalone anyway. Of course, the spring-framework-1.2-full-with-dependencies distribution would still include a standalone aopalliance.jar, but the others wouldn't - they would just include spring.jar, commons-logging.jar and cglib.jar (as suggested earlier, with cglib clearly marked as optional).
