You do have a point there. We originally just had a build process based on Ant; Maven was added later, as a contribution. Since then, here seems to be a number of people using Maven for building Spring... It would probably be worth doing a poll on this. I've personally never touched Maven before, and believe that Ant is in general perfectly sufficient for our development purposes.
