I may be totally off the track here, but can't we simply branch from the =
"release-1-0" tag in CVS then - on demand? IIRC, CVS allows to branch =
from any tag in the past, doesn't it?

The only disadvantage is that 1.1 work should not be committed to CVS =
head before the 1.0 final snapshot gets taken. However, this does not =
seem to be a problem for me, as 1.0 final will be released soon enough.
