There is a section on troubleshooting in the help file (Getting Started>Installation and Errors) which I am trying to build up with problems and fixes. Have a look there as there is a section for automation errors.

    Thanks, Steve

    I'm running
    - Windows XP with SP3
    - Excel 2007 SP2

Going through the help I see

    Manual Installation
    - 2007 - C:\Program Files[ (x86)]\Microsoft Office\Office12\XLSTART
This file exists in the 2b. For Excel 2007 onwards, copy the .xlam file from the install folder (C:\Program Files[ (x86)]\Spreadsheet Compare)) to the XLSTART folder determined above.

    Checking/Correctin References
    - not quite sure what to do here, I don't have the install disc's. In my organization I would not be able to get them. So I closed excel and then moved all of the files out of the directories you listed. I them moved them back in and re-opended Excel, I recieved the same error msg.

    I'm running:
    Windows XP SP3
    Excel 2007 SP2

From the help file you mentioned I see the following sections:
    Manual Installation
    - I confirmed that the .xlam file is in the correct folder

    Checking/Correctin References
    - I'm not sure what to do here. I'm doing this at work and do not have access to the instalation disc's. So I moved all of the files you listed out of the folders you listed, Then I moved them all back, I then re-started Excel and got the same error

You don't need the installation CDs. Can you check that all references are correct in the IDE:

Here is a list of used references. Access the references in the code editor (VBA IDE) by clicking 'Tools > References':

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\VBA\VBA7\VBE7.DLL
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office14\EXCEL.EXE
    C:\Windows\System32\FM20.DLL
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\OFFICE14\MSO.DLL

Here is a list of used controls:

    C:\Windows\System32\FM20.DLL
    C:\Windows\System32\MSCOMCTL.OCX
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office14\REFEDIT.DLL

You can see the help page here: http://www.thefoolonthehill.net/Help/SpreadsheetCompare/SpreadsheetCompareHelp.html

    Hi Steve

Thanks, I was using the help from the install, the link has much more information.

attached is a screen shot of my references and controls. I have Excel 12/0 object library and VB6.

Yesterday when I removed these files I still have outlook and was unable to move one of the files. Today I closed all MS Office products and removed the files as listed, this time I had no problems moving the files.

    I removed the reference files:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\VBA\VBA6\VBE6.DLL
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office12\EXCEL.EXE
    C:\Windows\System32\FM20.DLL
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\OFFICE12\MSO.DLL
opended up Excel - same automation error

    Removed the Control files:
    C:\Windows\System32\FM20.DLL
    C:\Windows\System32\MSCOMCTL.OCX
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office12\REFEDIT.DLL
Opened up Excel - same automation error

When looking at the controls I noticed I was missing the MS progress control, I added it. Still get the same 'Automation error'.

In Excel 2007 I ran MS office diagnoses:
    5 diagosticts rund
    1 problem identified
    1 corrective action taken

Closed Excel, re-opened Excel - Same automation error

    Thanks,
    Jerry

Everything looks right. If you open the IDE and click 'Debug>Compile', do you get errors, or anything highlighted?
