#92 error printing SCX4216F over ipp

I installed an SCX4216F on one machine, with SpliX driver. Printing works.
I shared the printer, and installed the network printer on a different machine, using the same driver.
When I attempt to print, the server almost immediately says on the status page:
"SpliX Cannot open job"
The client works hard for a while, then finally says:
"SpliX Error while rendering the request. Check the previous message"

I could not find anything in the logs, even with debug level. Lots of ipp messages, all with ok, then suddenly status changed to error with message "SpliX Cannot open job".

I am having the same issue printing to a Samsung ML1640 over ipp. Printing remotely from a windows machine through Samba works just fine, but from a linux machine to the server connected to the printer does not work.

...6 years later...I had this issue and it was because on the remote Linux machine I had added the printer using the SpliX driver. This is not correct as then your print jobs will be put through the SpliX driver twice - once on your machine and then again on the print server where it will of course fail. You'll see "SpliX Cannot open job" but unfortunately not much else useful in the log to explain the problem.

Instead on the remote machine add the printer through CUPs and select the 'raw' driver to send you jobs raw for the print server to handle. This makes sense and also means of course you don't need to install printer drivers on every machine, just the print server.
