I tried installing qtspim on two different Ubuntu systems, and I got this error both times.
I believe I have all the required qt dependencies.
And both of the following files exist:
/usr/share/qtspim/help/qtspim.qch
~/.local/share/data/Trolltech/Assistant/qthelpcollection_4.6.2.qhc

I am having the same issue on Linux Mint 9.
I got the same problem too
It's wonderfully helpful that this issue was just closed with no resolution. Still receiving this error on Ubuntu 14.04. All dependencies are installed.
Sorry, I can't reproduce this problem, and hundreds of people every month install qtspim on various flavors of Linux without problems. So, unless you can explore the problem more completely on your system and provide me with some concrete information, there isn't anything I can do.
