MNG animations in sphere will always have zero frames.
This pretty much makes them useless, since to play
them you have to remember the number of frames
manually.
The problem is that MNG files don't necessarily have a
number of frames. They can have custom loop points and
internal animations and layers and stuff.
It's probably possible to give them a frame count though...
