Thanks for testing this out. Am hoping that there are still AppleScript gurus out there who can help contribute and make this better. At some point I will get off my ass and make it Applescript-Cocoa :-)

To use:

1. Download the script and sample txt file.
2. Modify the sample txt file to phrases that correspond to your kid's spelling list
3. Open Script Editor (located in /Applications/Utilities), make new document
4. Copy and paste the script from here into the new document
5. Modify at least the property with your child's name in Messages.
6. Save as a stay-open application (see screenshot)

Run the App, point to your spelling list file, and watch your Messages window.

Remember that should you want to make changes, you need to click on the app in the dock, quit it, and open the app by dragging and dropping it onto the Script Editor icon in the Dock (double-clicking it will just run it again). Save your app before running it again, of course.
