I’m a big fan of sox, but there a functionality I’d like to see in it.
It’s the RMS normalization (replay gain?).
For my understanding, it’s a king of psychoacoustic analysis to measure the perceived loudness of a piece of music followed by a gain (with limiter) to change the perceived loudness to a parameter (-10dB) you can set standard on a whole file collection.
Is this possible (easy) to implement this ? I’m not a so good developer, but if I could help a little…

From sox(1):
One important use of audio file comments is to convey ‘Replay Gain’
information. SoX supports applying Replay Gain information, but not
generating it. Note that by default, SoX copies input file comments to
output files that support comments, so output files may contain Replay
Gain information if some was present in the input file. In this case,
if anything other than a simple format conversion was performed then
the output file Replay Gain information is likely to be incorrect and
so should be recalculated using a tool that supports this (not SoX).
You can use programs such as vorbisgain or metaflac to generate RG info.

Ok, I understand this point.
My target is to apply this process on large collection of .wav files. So I juste have to find (or develop) a replay gain generator supporting this format and running as a linux command line...
Thank you

At the moment, SoX doesn't know how to get RG info from wav files (but does for some other file types).
Is there a spec somewhere that describes how RG info is stored in wav files?
If so, please let me know, and I'll add the necessary support for SoX to read it and set the appropriate output level.
Thanks,
Rob
