Hi, long time since a post on this list, but to let you know, if you don't already; someone took SoleSeek's source here and created the closed source SolarSeek. Head over to <http://www.fejta.com/solarseek/> for the latest dev. version and discussion at: <http://slskboard.savagenews.com/index.php? showtopic=19704&view=getnewpost> Arthur |

My guess is that they not only haven't gotten any further but have LOST some code and have to rewrite it. Just kiding of course... don't bother finishing it, the quality of the soulseek network has VASTLY diminished and I don't think it even deserves a mac client anymore... What with Direct Connect/eDonkey/Kazaa/Gnutella having native OS X clients and all. mlnet even has a working soulseek plugin that is OS X native. hello i'm not a programmer or some kind of but i love soulseek and i followed your mailinglist for a long time. i'm happy to see that there are still people developing soleseek because the alternatives aren't real alternatives. maybe you don't know how many people are waiting for this cocoa app but i can tell you that there are a lot! and there will be even more if it was released. so it is important to make a good first release to debug it. this leads me to the main question: is there any indication when i could see a first beta release of soleseek? i would really like to help on this project so that it moves faster. can you give me some things i could do besides programming (logo, website, localization etc?)? a lot of my friends are looking at you with impatience for a soleseek release. wouldn't development be fasten up if you would look at other soulseek implementations like: http://sourceforge.net/projects/soulseekx/ http://www.sensi.org/~ak/pyslsk/ http://savannah.nongnu.org/projects/mldonkey/ but i'm sure you also refer to them but i'm just so anxious to see a native aqua soulseek that i hope it could be here tomorrow. well... i hope you are motivated to bring us this app and please go on with the good work! greets |

Not sure what was going on the other day but peer connections are working fine again today. Or as well as they ever did. The last couple of days I've been working on the MP3 bit rate and length code as well as a couple of other things I could work on without being connected. Now that everything's working fine for me again I'll focus on getting the peer browsing code finished. Glad to hear you're working on the search code. To me it seems like it's the biggest problem with the app from a usability point of view. On my 400mhz iMac, my CPU is at 100% whenever it's handling searches which makes scrolling through the results really slow. Matt |

This is putting a lot stress on the existing code (good thing). Some of those error codes are a good thing, we're just letting the connections die as we should. I'll try to configure the verbosity of that reporting in the debug menu. |

I was unable to connect to the main server or Isle last night even using the Windows clients, though the server status thing on the Soulseek forums page said the server was up so most likely it was a problem at my end. However as I previously mentioned, peer connections are broken for me, every one seems to die with either "Error domain 1, code 61 (Connection refused)", "Error domain -1, code -2 (timeout)" or " Error domain 1, code 60 (Operation timed out)". Just another update as regards my progress. I've been away for the last week and a bit, hence not at lot of work has been done on SoleSeek since I last posted here. I had planned to get a patch adding the context menus and peer file browsing submitted today, but after I updated to 10.3 SoleSeek seems unable to stay connected to the server for more than about 2 minutes which has, needless to say, made it impossible for me to finish the code. On top of that, I'm now unable to connect to the server at all (even using the Windows client) so I can't even attempt to track down the source of the problem. Hopefully the connection problems I was experiencing were server problems, but I won't know until I'm able to connect again. When the server's accessible again I'll be able to try fixing the connection problems I was having. If I can sort them out, then you can expect to see the patches soon after that. If not, well I guess I'll have to focus on things that I can test offline, of which there are plenty. Matt |

That email was actually from Matt Prowse, who has contributed quite a lot o= f code to SoleSeek, so I'm sure it will show up eventually. No need for ill-mannered emails. I was referring to Markus Magnuson's email about checking in all the updates we've been waiting for. I've run it too, the project is definately not a hoax. It runs well, it is just missing some key features. Hi All, As everyone's probably aware, SourceForge have been working on their CVS servers recently. The result has been that I've been unable to checkout Robert's most recent additions to the code, the most important of which was the transition to AsyncSocket from NetSocket. While waiting for CVS to resume normal operation I've been working on GUI and usability stuff. I've added context menus where appropriate, added provision for cancelling transfers in progress, allowed the transfer list to be cleared of finished and errored transfers, allowed multiple selections in the search and transfer fields (so you can download an entire album or kill off all transfers for a particular user at once for example). More substantially, I've nearly completed the code required to allow browsing of peers' files, and the code required to get the bitrate and length of every file locally shared. Once CVS is running again I'll merge my changes with the current source and submit a patch. I'm posting this to the list cause I said nearly a month ago that I'd started working on SoleSeek again and have said nothing much since. The work I've done on the peer browsing code has familiarised me somewhat with the network code so I should now be able to contribute more towards the really essential work that needs to be done on the project. Hopefully CVS will be back up soon so we can work towards a release before the end of the year. Matt P.S. I'll be upgrading to 10.3 when it comes out on the 24th, anyone know how this likely to affect my ability to code for SoleSeek? If it comes to it I can always keep a copy of 10.2 installed on a separate partition and use it for SoleSeek work. |
