Open multiple files at same time. Kaffeine can do this, why not SMplayer? When I do this here (Kubuntu Feisty, SMplayer 0.5.8) it crashes, whem the option single instance is mark.

SMPlayer can open several files through command line. It doesn't crash for me (SuSE 9.2), I'll test it on a Kubuntu.

I would say that when SMPlayer is opened by right clicking and doing the "open with SMPlayer" action, it should find the already existing SMPlayer (named semaphores could be used here I think) and should instead add the file to the playlist (if it's the first file to appear into an empty playlist, it should start playing it automatically).

Also, would it be possible to have the playlist integrated into the main window like Totem does? (or give a choice between separate window and same window).

SMPlayer is very nice. Keep up the great work :)
