Mplayer already support embedded Closed Caption by using -subcc switch instead of -sub filename.srt.

I have downloaded your SMplayer and love it very much but I am deaf and to get my closed caption I have to added subcc=yes and subfont-text-scale=2.3 and
sub-bg-alpha=40 in your config file since there doesn't seem to be a way to trigger the subcc on in your SMplayer like you do for subtitles and I couldn't change the font size since it doesn't allow me unless the subtitle is trigger first.

So it would be nice to offer a trigger to enable Closed Captioning which is -subcc and all those subtitle features like font size or color or background border should work the same for -subcc too.

All is need to to be able to enable/disable -subcc along with -sub or a choice to none / subtitle / closed caption in the menu something like that

Thank you for great software!

I've just added an option to enable closed caption subtitles in version svn r864.
I don't have any video with closed caption subtitles, so this feature is completely untested. I hope it works.

I downloaded the latest SVN and the "enable closed caption" works great! I am able to enable or disable on the fly! Great job!

But the fonts isn't adjustable or the setting to adjust fonts or place it top or bottom of screen like those in subtitle setting is greyed out so I am assuming it only works if it detects a subtitle file and -sub is enabled.

I wanted to say that -sub or -subcc both use the same settings for fonts or placement of text etc but only one can be used at a time .. either -sub subfile.srt or -subcc so is it possible that the font adjustment or font setting is enable when -subcc is enabled?

Thank you so much for adding this feature request!

Unfortunately I don't have any video with closed captions, so I can't test this option and see how they look like or if the aspect can be changed (have you enabled the SSA/ASS lib anyway?).

According to the mplayer manpage, -subcc is for DVDs, in that case the option -sub would be rarely used, so I think there shouldn't be any conflict, unless you explicitly load a srt or sub file.

The options for subtitle size, color... are always passed to mplayer, even if -sub is not used, so they should work with -subcc (unless this kind of subtitles don't allow that, which I don't know).

I uploaded a sample mpg to a site where you can download it and use it as an sample playback to test the closed captioning function on it. It about 26 meg zipped.

    http://www.stlaware.com/samplempg.zip

It a clip from a recorded show on scifi channel but the show have closed caption embedded into the mpg and just play it with only closed caption enabled that you should see the subtitle appear on the screen.

Thank again for adding this feature request!

Ok I did some more testing and the "Default position of the subtitles on screen" in Preferences does effects and work on Closed Caption so that works for sure but when I test it placing it in the middle of the screen then move the bar back to the bottom of the screen the closed caption stay in the middle for this mpg I played it on and seem to remember it keeping it there. So is it remembering the setting for whatever file it played for and keeping the setting locked to it? But when I play it on a mpg it haven't play yet the closed caption fall back to the bottom of the screen following to what the current setting is set at.

    Thanks for the sample.

Well, the first thing I noticed is that the subtitle options were disabled as smplayer doesn't recognize the closed captions as subtitles (and in fact mplayer doesn't print any info about it).

Now in svn r964 I made those subtitle options to be enabled if the closed caption option is checked. This way the subtitles can be moved or changed their size.

Unfortunately it seems this kind of subtitles are always white, even if the SSA/ASS library is enabled they are displayed this way.

About remembering the position of the subtitles: currently the position is a per-file setting, so if you move the subtitles to the middle of the screen (by using the "up" and "down" options in the Subtitle menu) when you play the file again the subtitles will be in the middle, but if you play another file they won't.

Anyway you can choose the default position for the subtitles in Preferences->Subtitles. That setting will affect new videos you open. Also you'll have to disable the SSA/ASS library.

Again Thank you so much for adding this feature request!

Mplayer was the few players that could play my HTPC recorded shows with closed caption support and I always had hoped to find a GUI console for mplayer that allow me to toggle it off/on without having to edit the config everytime. You really made my year adding this feature! Your GUI is one of the best I seen for Windows! Great job!

    You can add -sub-bg-alpha 40 to Preferences->Advanced->Options for mplayer->Options.
