My report is a change request. Unchecking the mentioned option can only be done AFTER the first invocation of smplayer on which the home call is already performed.
BTW: I don't get ticket mail from sourceforge. What I see instead is floods of braindead attempts to get a reject from my mailserver by RCPTing TO
You can turn it off by unchecking the option "open an informative page after an upgrade" in preferences -> updates.
