In SMPlayer 16.11 when in Preference --> General --> Audio -->Output driver if choose "Default" it don't autodetect my output device (alsa) and tryed playback via pulseaudio.
Well, in mpv I did not specified audio device in config, and mpv auto detects alsa, but via SMPlayer Default silent.
P.S. ps -Ac command | grep mpv /usr/bin/mpv ... --ao=pulse ...
On Default SMPlayer force pulse!
P.S.2 When i choose "Default", close preferance window and open Audio settings window again in Audio device choosen "User defined..." pulse, but i dont choose it.

If you would like to refer to this comment somewhere else in this project, copy and paste the following link:
"Default" means that SMPlayer won't force mpv or mplayer to use any output driver in particular, but let them decide what to use.

Please select "default" in preferences, play a video and then send the smplayer log (menu View).
I'm afraid I can't reproduce this problem in my computer with smplayer 16.11.
With "default" the --ao option isn't passed to mpv.
Are you using a smplayer package provided by a linux distro? Maybe they patched the package to use alsa as default.

Oh, my God, I have not thought about it.
