I built SMPlayer version 14.9.0 from the repository. I also updated mplayer to version:
MPlayer SVN-r37386-snapshot-4.6 (C) 2000-2015 MPlayer Team
When I try to open a video file I get the following error:

Possibly a bug in mplayer, but I decided to report it here first.
I am running Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
I can watch videos fine with Movie Player, but I sure miss SMPlayer.
I can't reproduce the problem, I'm also using Ubuntu 12.04, the latest version of SMPlayer and MPlayer SVN-r37386 (built from sources). The option -stop-xscreensaver works for me.
